Let me introduce you to "Baby"
So it is officially the third day of playing surrogate mommy to a tiny baby goat who's mother died during birth and he has already stole my heart.
Playing surrogate to an orphaned animal is a full time commitment and it can take up a great deal of your time, but when it comes to animal welfare, it is a commitment that I would make in a heartbeat, and it is honestly a very fulfilling task.
Baby ( as I call him) spends his days in the "goat nursery" with all the other new born baby goats while their mothers are out grazing. This helps to ensure that the still weak lambs do not get caught by predators or get tired and left behind by the heard, but what happens when mommy comes back at feeding time? Well then baby simply runs to the gate bleating impatiently for me to arrive with his bottle, today while I was trying to get my phone out to do a short clip to show you the feeding session, baby got so impatient that he started nudging me with his head on my leg to hurry up.
At this stage Baby is getting a bottle 5 times a day, as times goes on the volume of the bottle will increase while the frequency of his bottle will decrease, and eventually he will be let loos in the big wild world of Goatdom...
Other than tending to Babys needs today, I actually managed to have quite a productive day, nearly finished digging the trenches for the new irrigation system we are planning to put up in the net house, got my 5000 liter worm-bin ready for my worm-farm as well as manage to do some planting and maintenance around the house, I know that it might not sound like much but if you stew that up with all the daily running tasks on a farm, trust me it makes for an overflowing plate in no time. But every now and then you will find something really cool in-between the blood sweat and tears.
Today I found a rainbow tailed lizard that managed to fall into one of my mixing buckets, (and just so that you know, he was fully capable of getting his own ass out of there) however having him trapped in a small space like that allowed me to take a nice picture of this (normally illusive) little reptile with his strikingly beautiful electric blue tail. And the other day while trekking in the field I came across this almost perfectly heart shaped rock just lying on the ground, I am not exactly sure why I was so fascinated by this, but it was probably because I felt that nature was telling me that it still loves me <3
Anyway, so there you have just a tad bit more insight to my life - I wish you a wonderfully blessed day!
