Poultry farming was majorly practiced in Kenya in small scale, mostly for domestic consumption however, the introduction of agribusiness and agribusiness classes by various organizations have sensitized people on the value and opportunity presented by poultry farming.

With the introduction of KARI IMPROVED KIENYEJI CHICKEN breed, the farmers can now rear chicken that matures faster creating meat and eggs at a higher rate than with old KIENYEJI breeds. The consumption of chicken products have also risen with a growing middle-class in Kenya preferring to spice up their diets with white meat.

Farmers are making an average of $1000 a month from chicken rearing business in Kenya.
