Growing Ginger at home and take advantage of its properties and uses as a condiment to add flavor and aroma to your dishes is very easy since it is a plant that needs little care and easy reproduction.
Growing ginger in pots:
First of all you should know that it is possible to grow it indoors and in pots. It is a plant that requires heat, humidity and does not expose itself to direct sunlight. It reproduces by rhizome, a kind of nodules that come out in the stem between the folds of each part of the stem that is where the next plant will start to sprout.
- Place the ginger stem you want to reproduce in water for at least 12 hours. Ensure that the stem or root is fresh.
- Divide it into pieces trying that each part contains at least 2 buds that will give rise to the new plants.
- Prepare a pot with soil and compost and bury shallow 2 to 3 pieces of ginger per pot. Place the pot in a shady place to water little, when the plant begins to sprout water more often. The earth must remain humane but not waterlogged and at a temperature of approximately 20 degrees.
- In 30 days you should see the plant with its leaves. During the first year the plant grows between 40 and 80 centimeters.
- When the plant reaches between 8 to 10 months, you can go harvesting the root little by little and take advantage of the same root to resembrate so we will always have fresh ginger at home.
