After living in Japan for a year, I fell in love with the culture. Maybe because I was raised in San Francisco, home of the largest Chinatown in the USA, and also beautiful Japan-Town I was very comfortable living around Asian culture. My friends have fondly dubbed me an honorary Asian. It is amazing what one can learn while living in different cultures, and if you have never had the opportunity then I encourage you to do it at least once.
A little history about the word Kimono, is that the word originally meant clothing. Over time the word means traditional Japanese clothing. The Kimono was created during the Heian period from 794 to 1192.
I had been on the search for a few different Kimono's when realized there are many different types. Of course, in movies and television we see the traditional and most beautiful garments worn in ceremonies. I was on the lookout for one I could just wear over jeans and maybe wear out to a movie or at the job for casual friday.

During my research I found the type of kimono I was looking for, but of course the kimono had to be long enough since I am much taller than the average Asian. I found this wonderful young lady on Etsy, and she assisted me with all the questions one might have buying their first Kimono. I tried buying a kimono on eBay one time but it literally came up above my waist. I was very disappointed and I did not want to go through that again.
What I found out was that if there is still stitching left in the Kimono, that means it had never been worn. How lucky was I to have found the Kimono I did and with a feminine design and beautiful colors. I have to say, I am in love with the piece I found and purchased. As with any vintage purchase, it may come with a slight odor. I suggest doing some heavy duty airing out, sage smoke for clearing, and the least amount of chemical dry cleaning.
I could not help myself but show you a photo of me sporting my new Kimono. I just adore the flowers and color.
Sometimes it is the small things in life that make it all worthwhile.
Wow! I love the GIFs!! LOL

Very pretty ^_^ thanks for sharing!
Thank you for stopping by and appreciating. I like the little face too! :)
Kimonos are amazing. Pretty much like a lot of Japanese culture actually.
I agree @fknmayhem,how about the tea ceremony. It’s so beautiful.
Nice find! I lived in San Francisco as well for a while. I'm actually moving back soon! Did you know that the Chinatown in SF is actually the largest Chinese community outside of China and the densest population in America west of Manhattan? I actually just a posted a picture of some of the guys that will play Chinese chess there in Portsmouth Square! Great post by the way! :)
Thank you for the Congrats @keephy! Yes it’s my hometown. I left almost 2 years ago because I could t stand the traffic. 3 hrs a day of commuting. No thank you. My family is still there though. Yes I know about Chinatown USA. :)
I have a photo of that too, the chess guys and also of the musicians. I should post that, how much I miss the musicians. From
My understanding they are Chinese Opera musicians but that I’m
Not sure is fact. Are you moving back and forth for business?
WHAT a great experience to have lived abroad!
And that kimono is beautiful!
Thank you @goldendawne! Yes it was quite the experience. I may post something on Korea too, it will most likely be food since it’s my most fav food in he world after living there. I’ve been checking out your post s on healthy and I do a lot of what you are all posting but I’m trying to figure something original instead of double posting. I got some good recipes tho from looking around like the hemp milk. I’m on some diet that is keeping me from grains so I stopped the oatmeal cups. It’s great for high cholesterol though, and oatmeal muffins.
I appreciate you stopping by and saying hi and liking my find too! xx
So glad you were able to find the perfect kimono for you, it’s a work of art and simply beautiful! Does it have a large design on the back or continue the lotus pattern?
@redwellies, thank you for the comment and encouragement! I uploaded the backside up above, just for you! Hope you like it. xx
@eaglespirit, thank you :) The back is as beautiful as the front :)
@redwellies glad you approve 🤣🤣
Really cool. I would love to see a full length pic. How long is it? It looks really nice. Thanks for sharing the pic. It makes me want one!! I have a Chinese jacket that my dad brought me back once from China while he was there visiting. Bright red with black accents. It's lovely and fits me like a glove. It's a treasure. :) Enjoy your kimono.
hi @apanamamama, it is not full length as it is not traditional, just something to wear casually and because I am 5'6" and much taller than the average Asian the length hits my upper thigh. Oh, let me see the Chinese jacket on you, sounds beautiful! xx
That sounds really cute!! I bet it does look great on you. I would have to dig up pics of the Chinese jacket. I left it in Texas as I didn't think the heat here would necessitate a warm silky jacket that I usually only wear in the winter in Texas. :) I'll look around on my computer for it!
What a beauty! I have a specially fond place in my heart for Japanese and other Asian cultures as well, I really do want to go live there for a while sometime in the future.
My boyfriend is telling me about Japanese lore right now haha, @offgridninja he should be posting about Yokai or Onis or something sooner then later. We are also having home made spring rolls for dinner, tho I dunno if that is particularly Japanese?
Beautiful kimono, and beautiful you! Have a lovely night <3
i really admire and like the Asian culture so much, i wanna live in China or Japan or a couple of years! I am fascinated by mostly everything, the history, the culture, the amazing view and the people and also that kimono looks great in you!!
Too cool! I have a cppl kimonos. They are old. Don't know if they're legit but they are pretty! Found them at 2nd hand stores. Enjoy!
Show me the pics!!! xx
@luanne

Well I didn't find the kimonos I have but did find a Vietnamese dress I just posted about! I was inspired by this post of yours! 😸
Excellent! Where is your photo? You just have a Steemit gray face still ... Hee Hee
