Is good to be here again this morning. I will be talking about how we fashion designers take our body measurement when preparing to cut our dress. i.e Taking your body measurement when sewing your dress (Tailoring), In tailoring you take your body measurement using TAPERULE.

When taking your measurement

Make sure you are using a correct tape for your measurement and not to use metal tape that is normally used by construction workers.
You must measure correctly. Be sure that the tape is straight and in line with the appropriate body part.
You must be standing straight, tall with your head up.
Putting on appropriate clothing is necessary when measuring so as to measure accurately. If you are putting on baggy or thick clothing you cannot be accurate. So make sure to wear something fitted.
There is difference between circumference and length so know when to measure circumference Vs length. Circumference (the measurement around something) or length ( the measurement between two straight points).
Make sure you put down the measurement as you are taking them so as not to forget when needed.

Where to measure

Measure your shoulder

Measure the distance between the shoulder seams on a fitted cloth or any area you wish the shoulder seam to be. The measurement should be taken across the top of the back and parallel with the floor.

Measure your sleeve length

Measure the distance between your shoulder seam and your sleeve cuff

Measure the circumference of your sleeve length.

Make sure you are placing your tape on the shoulder and make sure the tape is passing through the burst down to the actual length you needed.

Your waist

The tape should be equally passing from the shoulder through your burst to the waist, that is for the length. And for the circumference of the waist, place your tape round in line with the waist tightly.
