A little picturesque spot on the Brisbane River where the birds like to gather .....

This #featheredfriday post @melinda010100 is a bit of a mixture of history and birds. I didn't think that I could show lovely photos of birds, the river area and the trees at this popular picnic location on the Brisbane River without giving a little bit of background history.

There is obviously plenty of food for the pelicans, ducks and swans in this part of the river.

The Brisbane river starts from a place called Mt Stanley, it runs a very long distance of 314 kms (214 miles) through Brisbane city and into the ocean at Morteon Bay. On this journey the river is dammed at a place called Wivenhoe. This dam provides water to the people of Brisbane.

Brisbane, the capital of Queensland was named by John Oxley in 1823. He was the first explorer of this area. Oxley named the town Brisbane after the Governor of New South Wales, Sir Thomas Brisbane.

But, this little scenic picnic spot where my sister spent an hour enjoying a capuchin is far away from the hustle and bustle of the big Brisbane City.

Although I love visiting the city spending a bit of relaxation time looking at the wild life.

Cheers and Blessings

A lovely array of birds for Feathered Friday, Angie.

Thank you Redheadpei - very Australian.

That is quite a gathering! They seem to be enjoying the picnic spot, too. Thanks for including the bits about the river and where the name comes from and thanks for posting to #featheredfriday!
!Tip

Hello Melinda, it is always a pleasure to write these posts. I am just bit worried that I am going to run out of interesting birds!

I am worried, too! We will just have to do repeats of the same birds in different poses! Remember you can post birdhouses and bird art, too!
