Feathered Friday-Mourning Dove

I would love to see your bird photos at #featheredfriday. Tag me @melinda010100 or post your link below in the comments so that I don't miss seeing them!

I'm making an effort to keep the tag going and appreciate your support!

The Mourning Dove is one of the most abundant of all North American birds with a population estimate of 350 million.

Every year hunters harvest more than 20 million birds.

Although they belong to the same family, Doves are smaller than pigeons.

I read that they eat up to 20% of their body weight in a day and judging by the amount of of time they spend at my bird feeder, I believe it!

Their nests are a loose structure of sticks and they can have up to 6 broods a year.

I'm looking forward to seeing your birds this week.

Thanks, Pix! You are the best!

Nice looking doves, it seems the only birds my camera wants to take pictures of are seagulls and eagles, at least they are not to blurry. I am still trying to get a decent picture of a sandhill crane, one day I will. Anyway almost enough about me and my bird shy camera - https://steemit.com/featheredfriday/@bashadow/featheredfriday-seagulls-and-eagles-and-a-lumpy-sky - my #featheredfriday try.

That is a magnificent eagle gif! And I am glad your camera found those seagulls... all your photos are excellent!

Great bird photos and information about them! And a great bird shadow, too!

Lovely shots of the dove. It’s nice to see a couple of them hanging around here.

Love your grackle photos!

Thanks Melinda! I hope you have a great weekend. 💕

At the cathouse - the bird feeders have been strategically placed outside the window to take advantage of the local will-work-for-food birds to provide entertainment.

It is entertaining to bring nature up close! You have a great selection of feeders!

@melinda010100

Beautiful Dove to share for the #featheredfriday challenge! I'm afraid I didn't give proper credit, or sadly missed the memo that Keith wasn't hosting anymore? I'm sure sorry if that's the case! I tagged you, but I will also post mine here! Love and light to you my friend!

That is definitely a bird tree! Great job capturing photos of these big guys!

A lovely bird photo! Thanks for posting to #featheredfriday.

What a delightful little bird! It is not one that we have here in North America.

It's amazing that you do not have such birds! I looked at the wiki, its habitat, it turns out, is limited to Eurasia and North Africa. Thanks for the challenge, it helps to see and learn a lot of new things.

I am constantly amazed by all the new things I learn here each day!

What a lovely bird! I really like Doves, but for some reason I don't see them around much in our garden. You really know a lot about birds @melinda010100 ! Wishing you and everyone a wonderful Friday ;-)

Here is my entry for todays #featheredfriday https://steemit.com/featheredfriday/@catlady.natascha/feathered-friday-a-baby-redstart-spent-the-night-on-our-balcony

What a sweet baby! Great photos and videos. They have such an interesting call.

Thank you :-D Yes, it's really adorable. The way it sat there, with it's fluff on the head... Too cute!
I agree, their call is really special ;-)

I love that fluffy little baby head, too!

They are such amazing birds! Usually they are very shy. You did great getting so close!

Came by to say hi and noted you are accepting #featheredfriday that is wonderful news to keep this tag going @melinda010100 just done an edit on my post. Will drop it here as well.

Gorgeous little turtle dove photography, they really are cute little birds, even though not the brightest in town.

River Bank Wading Bird Paradise

Yeah, those doves! They provide a lot of lunches for the neighborhood hawks.

That heron is quite incredible and I am so glad that you posted your link here. I would have hated to miss seeing this big bird!

Doves over here sometimes sit in the driveway you have to wait for them to realize they need to move. Wild cats hunt them since they move slower than most.

That is a lovely looking Dove.
I had wondered what the difference was between Doves and Pigeons thanks for the info.

Thanks so much! I appreciate you!

My pleasure. 😇

Pretty bird

Do they visit your feeders, too?

I think I have an idea for tomorrow and for your tag my dear Lady Mel 😊

Oh good! That will make me happy!

A beautiful and informative post, Melinda:)

Thanks, Pryde! I just sent you an email...

I got it. I have seen most of the posts and did some upvoting. I will make the call tomorrow night and then send you out a list:)

Before noon tomorrow (Fridsy) right?

No worries. I will take a look now:)

This is really a very good idea to make this post a little bit in advance! I think I will join tomorrow!

It gives people a place to post their links, plus I get busy on Friday with the Shadow Contest posts, so it makes it more manageable for me if I post it on Thursday. Plus I'm glad that it reminded you to find a bird photo for tomorrow!

I agree, and it is very wise, Melinda!

Que lindas aves, estan tan hermosas pensando en fabricar su nido para poner sus huevos y poder tener sus pichones, que intelidente son ,muy lindas fotos @melinda010100 saludos amiga

Thanks so much! 😃

Wow, you captured beautifully this Mourning Dove bird photography.

Thank you! 😊

Great shots. We have a handful of mourning doves hanging about my neighborhood.

Thanks! I think they are everywhere!

Nice shots of this beautiful bird....

Thanks, Mike.

You are spoiling them! Now they should be eating flies, lol. I got bitten by mosquitoes already!!! Beautiful photos as always my Dear; she is adorable 😍

Thanks! They mostly eat seeds and only occasionally eat insects, so they aren't going to be much help with flies and mosquitoes!

I was only joking, lol. The best for mosquitoes are dragonflies, but I haven't seen any yet.

I haven't seen any yet, either. They need to get busy!

They really do. I got bitten again, lol................every time I am taking photos of flowers!

What a beautiful bird. Love your amazing photos @melinda010100 No wonder they always look plump and healthy. That is quite an appetite isn't it?

Thanks, dear Trudee! They eat 70 calories of food a day! I thought that was rather astonishing.

Howdy Melinda! that nest doesn't look closed up enough at all! But those shots are super good. I love to listen to their song or call or coo.

My daughter has a dove nest in her garden and often the eggs fall through and onto the ground and break. You would think they could come up with a better design. But no matter, their population continues to flourish!

lol! That shouldn't be funny but it still strikes me as funny, yes you'd think they wouldn't have holes big enough for the eggs to all through!

Their architectural skills seem to be a bit lacking!

wow beautiful:)

Thank you! 😊

The shots look awesome, when first saw them couldn't tell the difference between them and a pidgeon.

I don't think there is a huge difference. Sometimes pigeons are called rock doves. The main difference is size, I think. These guys are a bit smaller than pigeons.

Darn groupies! They take over the feeders and gorge themselves at my parents' house. Nice photos of them, though!

They used to "greet" me every morning on my way to work. Hooooooooooo.... hooo hooo.....

They fall asleep on the feeder and block the trays and no other birds can get to the seed. They do eat a lot!
