Hello, Hivers!
I guess it's been a while since my last post here. The last post was at the beginning of January, and now it's almost the end of January. I've been distracted by all of the stuff surrounding the train wreck that is the new U.S. government. I took a break from all the "doom scrolling" that I've been doing the last couple of weeks on the internet, and decided that I should probably write a post for my blog here on Hive.
Early in the winter, in the last part of 2024, I decided to start feeding the deer that roam around the neighborhood. There's an empty piece of land, probably a couple of acres, across the street from where I live in town, so I decided that would be a better place to feed the deer for the winter, rather than feeding them alongside the street where I live. That's better for the local vehicle traffic, and safer for the deer. Also, I'm guessing that if I was feeding the deer along side my yard next to the street, sooner or later, someone would complain to the city about it because of the traffic hazard. With feeding them up in the field, hopefully there won't be any complaints. I have been feeding them alfalfa hay, something I found a recommendation for from various internet sites. I buy the hay bales at the local farm co-op.
I've made several videos about feeding the deer, mostly showing the deer waiting to get food, and then the deer eating. It seemed like a good idea when I started doing it, and apparently at least some people enjoy the videos on youtube. I've made videos with my phone camera, and with my new-ish video camera. I've found that the video comes out best when I use a tripod. I'm going to link the video from a week ago because I used the tripod and it came out well. You get to see me in my scruffy old barn coat that I've had for probably 40 years. It's still warm, so I use it when I'm doing stuff that might make a mess.
Here's the video, it's short of 6 minutes long.
Thanks for stopping by my page to check out my video!
I hope you enjoy it!
