On Saturday, May 26, 2018 The New York Times published an article titled “Ireland Votes to End Abortion Ban in Rebuke to Catholic Church” (https://www.nytimes.com/2018/05/26/world/europe/ireland-abortion-yes.html?hp&action=click&pgtype=Homepage&clickSource=story-heading&module=first-column-region&region=top-news&WT.nav=top-news).

A few days prior, I published an article “My Body, My Choice: Why the ‘Gag Rule’ is Old-Fashioned and Wrong” (https://phoebeglen.com/my-body-my-choice-why-the-gag-rule-is-old-fashioned-and-wrong/).

So you can imagine, that I was surprised that the United States seems to be moving backwards in an age where a lot of other countries are moving forward, in regards to more equality in Human Rights, which are essentially Women’s Rights.

While reading the New York Times article, I was pleased to find the following quote, “This has been a great exercise in democracy,” Mr. Varadkar said, “and the people have spoken and the people have said: We want a modern constitution for a modern country, and that we trust women and that we respect them to make the right decisions and the right choices about their own health care.”

Applause!!!!!!!

This led me on a google search of ‘countries where abortion is legal 2018’. I came across this impressive map: The World’s Abortion Laws 2018 (http://worldabortionlaws.com/). I look forward to a future where the whole map is green.
