Of Death, Thoughts and Songs

Susan was not normal and nothing proved it more than her father's suicide,

When Susan saw her father hanging from the ceiling, the first thought she had was the song by Sia.
I’m gonna swing from the chandelier, from the chandelier...!” her mind sang.

She dared not sing out loud because he would punish her. It didn’t occur to her that he wouldn’t hear her if she sang aloud, no matter how loud she sang.

The second thought she had was a question.
What would happen if I turned on the lights?
She expected that a halo would form around her father’s limp head.

She turned it on to test her theory but was disappointed when the lit crystals, though beautiful, didn’t form a halo.
The third thought was the song by Beyonce.
I see your halo (halo), halo...,” her mind sang again.
Turning off the lights, she went back to bed.

Screams from her aunt and mother woke her up.
The first thought she had upon waking up and seeing her father still hanging up was, “It wasn’t a dream after all.

Through the day, as people came around to visit her and her grieving mother, her mind was filled with Aerosmith's song.
"I don't wanna close my eyes, I don't wanna fall asleep, cos I don't wanna miss a thing..."
