I'm starting to question how much fiction has had to say in how i percive the world, and how i reflect on it. Ive always been drawn to characters that might be slightly toxic, but good at heart. Idk, theres just something more interesting about depressive characters. I really wish id perfer the upstanding happy healthy ones, but i dont, i find it hard to relate to them. Instead im drawn to the ones with serious problems, like drug abuse or mental issues
I believe most people are drawn to those characters, since we can all relate to them. Humanity as a whole can relate to them. We've always been keen to addictions and unhealthy stuff, humans have always had urges to ruin their lives with drugs and toxic environment even though they were conscious about the consequences. I believe it's in the human nature to always fall into a certain depressive state. We all have our addictions, whether it's smoking, drinking, video games, social media or whatever else. Thus studying a complex depressive character makes us feel comfortable, and let's us know that we're not alone, we've all got problems, no matter what a healthy lifestyle we have, no matter how much we try our best to be perfect. Fiction with gray concepts has also always been fascinating in my opinion. It is a lot more interesting to read a book with complex characters that have issues and hard ways of thinking, then one that devides the world in good and bad. That is why movies and books with gray characters have always been successful. Look at GoT for example. The first 5 seasons were genuinely nice and relatable for everyone, because no one was perfect and everyone had its issues. At the same time, no one was evil, meaning they did what they did because of a good reason. So yeah you've got nice taste
