The Havenworlder writes their Human friend on occasion even knowing the kid cannot read well. And, as the child grew older, they sometimes visited to chat and the Havenworlder learned the safe hiking areas.

There is such a thing as an unequal relationship that is nevertheless wholesome and good. Such as the relationship between Poflid Leez, a fully-grown adult of her species, and Human Dru, aged four. A Havenworlder and a Deathworlder respectively, the latter saved the former's life, and such good deeds can never be forgotten.
Ruggedia was not recommended for actual holidays. Leez had a regime to toughen up her genes on behalf of the next generation, so visits to Human Dru were strictly regulated.
However, visits from Human Dru were encouraged, and the child was accompanied by a guardian of one form or another. Humans and the intricacies of their extended families took a lot of unriddling. A trusted adult could be a blood relative, a neighbour, or a former classmate of any given parental. Familial relationship or not, they gained familial honourifics.
This visit's companion was Unty Vress, who had evidently been through too many rounds of "Are we there yet". Ze preferred to nap with only thin slicing to guide hir regarding guardian intervention.
Soft rooms and appropriate play toys and long discussions about nothing at all. Zen and the art of Yes And.
"We came outta dinosaurs, but only sorta," said Dru as they played with a plastic figure. "Some dinosaurs got warm blood and turneded into mammals."
"They did?" Leez feigned surprise. "That sounds like quite a trick. Did they do it all at once?"
"No... it took a bill'yun years or more. Tha's a long long long long long long long long long long..." gasp, "long time. It's e-vo-loo-shun."
"Wow," cooed Leez. "Were they called anything special? When they weren't dinosaurs, but they weren't mammals?"
Human Dru announced, "This one's a Princess."
"Ah, a Princess dinosaur. Hello, your Majesty. I trust you're having a wonderful day."
It was a good adventure for Dru, who got to travel further and see more than they would have as a more typical resident of Ruggedia. On the long trip home, Dru would work on letters in crayon that were more art than letter. Leez, of course, would illustrate her letters back.
Interestingly, they both had roughly the same skill level.

I know, right?
I wonder how likely it is that the youngster will become a protector for that gentle havenworlder and their family when the kid's older?
That's SO adorable! :-) The kid's reading, writing, and other skills are going to seriously increase more quickly because of this. And the havenworlder's strength is going to increase for this, too.
A mutually beneficial arrangement for sure
