A rare person it is that can out-stubborn a wizard, rarer still is one that can out-stubborn a cat.
But what happens when a stubborn wizard meets a stubborn feline wizard? -- Anon Guest
Some wild magic areas are more amenable to life than others. Nothing about that previous sentence means that the life is anything near ordinary. In one particular chain of islands, scars of an ancient magical war have made intelligent life from the less intelligent.
More or less.
Everyone knows that cats are more intelligent than most other creatures. So it was only natural that they were the first among many to become... well... more civilised than your average cats. They were just the first among many to create a civilisation of their own. Including all the things that went with it.
Including wizardry.
Wraithvine wasn't the first among the rest of the world to arrive at the island chain named Animalia, but ze was intrigued enough to want to stay for some significant time.
It was one among the precious few times that ze was met with as much curiosity as ze came with.
As always, it was the children -cubs, kits, or pups- that asked the most questions.
"Why is your nose like that?"
"Where's your fur?"
"Don't you get cold?"
The fact that these questions happened in a library was nothing new. The other wizard attempting to study there glared at Wraithvine for every single one.
"Is there something you'd like to ask?" offered Wraithvine.
"When are you leaving?"
"When I have learned all I can and taught all I can teach," said Wraithvine. Which was a decent enough answer. Ze had learned that saying, When the world needs me elsewhere, had lead to some creating emergencies to distract hir.
"So," said the tabby Wizard, "you're here forever. At least for the first part[1]." A yawn that showed impressively long fangs and a lot of sharp teeth. "I suppose they will tire of you eventually."
"There's always more children," said Wraithvine. "Always more curiosity."
The tabby narrowed hir green eyes at Wraithvine. "Just so. I shall continue to sate my own. Quietly."
The extremely polite war of patience had only just begun.
