They lived in a land where polygamy was common. However, this trio was ... shocking for none had seen the like. They were human, one of their loves was hellkin, the other was halloblood. And all three loved each other almost more than life itself. Now if only outsiders would stop trying to rescue them! -- Lessons

Pax, Amity, and Grace lived out of the way from most residents of Lauthiraux. They had a happy life together, not that many in Lauthiraux believed it. Not because of three adults sharing a house. There were many more polycules in the town. But because of what types of adults were living there.

They had no qualms with Amity, the Human, when ze came to market with their household wares. They had no concerns with Grace, the Halloblood, when they went in, buying tools and necessities. They didn't turn a hair at Pax, the Hellkin, as she went looking for medicines and salves for little household injuries. But when Lauthiraux learned that all three shared the same house... that was when all the real trouble began.

One of them had to be saved from the other two. That was the general consensus. But... which one needed saving?

It was difficult, all the same, to rescue the obviously helpless and abused member of that obviously toxic household. No matter which one they came for.

When they came to rescue Pax, she was the one to fight them off. Savagely.

When they came to rescue Grace, they were just as bad.

The fiercest of them all was Amity, who actively chased hir would-be rescuers down the road with hir horsewhip. Ze had to be dragged back from attacking further by hir bedmates.

Despite all this, tongues still wagged. Sympathetic souls kept asking each of them if they were happy. Not that they paid the slightest attention to answers they misliked. It was exhausting on both sides.

And when the three retreated as much as possible from interacting with Lauthiraux, the town hired heroes to be certain that there wasn't anything nefarious going on over there.

Considering how heavy handed some Adventurers can be... it could have gone so very differently than it did.

"People like to assume," sighed Amity as ze served the Adventurers stew. "When we banded together as a throuple, people assumed we were a coven or worse. We came to Lauthiraux because they let people polycule here. We didn't know they'd be speciesist."

Valor, the leader of the Adventurers, gestured at his own capped horns. "They didn't mind these when they hired us," he said, and looked over the other four. Humans. "Although... It might have been the company I keep."

"I'm starting to wonder if there's anywhere that would welcome us," Grace sighed. "We just settled in. I don't want to move again."

"Loves?" Pax came in from the woods, not with firewood and animals from her traps, but with a small bundle. "We're going to have to buy a nanny goat." The bundle in her arms started to cry.

Valor and his crew returned to Lauthiraux with the news, "They're fine. They just got a baby half-Elf son. And we're going to guard them all from you lot."
