How well do I know the struggle of my life not being my own. The 1980's were very good to me. The band and I put out a series of multi-platinum albums and played to sold out arenas night after night. We survived the parties and the groupies and managed to keep ourselves together for 16 solid years. We managed to avoid infighting for the majority of our time together and it was only at the end that Archie and I began to see the band going in a different direction. We all enjoyed solo careers for many years and when we reunited back in 2015 on stage for our Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction we knew we all had to get back out on the road together.
I wouldn't trade it for the world but I do sometimes wish that I could go out in public without the damn paparazzi following me around everywhere I go. Don't get me wrong I love my fans and spend at least 20 hours per week signing autographs and taking photos but sometimes I just want to get myself a burrito and sit on a wall eating it while the world walks by.
Nowadays I lock myself away in my room with my guitar writing songs for my next solo project. Thanks to modern technology I can have burritos delivered to my doorstep. Once the album is complete I'll get back out into the sunlight with pen in hand, ready to sign some butt cheeks and foreheads.
Oh, how well do I know this life of fortune and fame!
This has been a fictional story brought to you by @jbreheny. I actually spent most of the 80's doing stupid shit, most of which should have killed me. Luckily for you though it didn't and you get to read this piece of random fiction. Rock on!
If I was keeping myself locked away and working on an album you would be able to check it out at Rough Around The Edges.
A burrito, not day old refrigerated slice of pizza, a burrito? I knew it was just a story when I read a burrito. ;-} Will have to listen a bit more tomorrow, started with "coming Home", but it is getting late here.
There’s just something about a good burrito that warms my heart. Thank you for listening. Someday I’d like to get better recordings and start writing again.
Ha ha! For a minute there, I was trying to think of which 1980s band you belonged to. I was going through my collection of CDs, which has long since been sold, and looking for a band with your name. Then you said it was fiction. Cool story. You had me.
Haha, that’s great. It’s a good thing I don’t have a picture of me wearing striped spandex pants. It was just something I threw together. Had great fun with it.
I am pretty sure most of us could write all kinds of 80's stories even without fiction.
But fiction is pretty fun to do :)
I know this is going to sound cliche but... I miss the 80's!
I was unsure as the if this was truly fiction - your writing has an air of authority on this topic. Then, when I got to the end and found you are a musician, it made sense.
A fantastic short story that pack so much into so little. Thanks for sharing this.
Thank you @steveblucher! I wanted to keep it short so people wouldn't lose interest.
