in #fiction7 years ago (edited)

Welcome Steemit friends this is a story about a woman who had an absolutely horrible marriage and was more than abused. She was so terrified by her ex-husband that she no longer wanted to be with a man ever again. But then she found...or, did he find her.

No String Attached - The Desire 2

He wasn’t used to that sense when a woman talked to him. They had always been drawn to him and been comfortable. It was not like he was a lineman that drooled spit. It was not like he was D-Line and salivated like a dog at the thought of fighting. His knowledge of what women meant had been a complete failure on many occasions but not always a complete failure. He was a little embarrassed she had heard him so he decided to clarify.

“Strings attached to what doctor?”

“Being a girlfriend or a running partner?” Every time she said something she stuck the drink straw back in her mouth fast and bit it waiting for a mean response if he guessed right.

“There are no strings attached for a girlfriend or a running partner. I am Daniel, doctor?” He held out his hand gently across the table toward her.

“Ellen.” She said and took his hand gently as well in a female grasp, which was more like a light grasp of his fingers like she thought he might grab her. When he just let her take his hand and did not reach for more, she held on to him just a little bit tighter.

“You did fit perfectly under my left arm.”

She quickly pulled her hand back, “That was professional assistance.”

“Yes, I understand it and thank you for the help. I was about to collapse on the ground as you know. Do I owe you for your services?”

“No you don’t owe me anything. I would never be your wife. No strings attached boyfriend?” She smiled but smiled with that straw stuck in her mouth as fast as she had finished speaking.

“Ellen you have absolutely gorgeous eyes, a beautiful face and a healthy body, and lips to die for, plus you saved my life. I think. I also have to stretch a bit I think. And I really need some food, bad.”

“Carbs Daniel, “She said, “You should surely have a lot of carbs right now.”

“Could I have the double mushroom burger with cheese and a double order of large fries?”

“Yes, I’ll order it.” She set down her drink and rose from the table toward the snack shack in one fluid perfect motion.”

“I have to walk and stretch.” He said to her back and saw her nod in response as he stepped out from under the table. He really did have to stretch and walk around.

“It will be so much easier for you next time to go just as fast or maybe even a little faster.” She said coming up behind him.

“You really think so?” He said with his foot up on the table as his head touched his knee. He switched legs waiting for her response and didn’t even look at her.

“Oh yes, especially if you only run a mile or two at a higher speed. Could I take your pulse while you stretch?”

He held out his left hand which was toward the sound of her with his head on his left knee.

“62 you are in excellent shape compared to most 35 year old men I see.” She said as she released his wrist.

“Thanks Ellen,” Daniel dropped his leg and then stretched both calves as far as they would go by leaning on the table with his arms extended.

“You were an athlete like me. I can tell that by the way you concentrate on your stretches and the length of time you hold them. But not a runner, not long distance.”

“Football Ellen. Defensive Safety. I bet I could beat you in a sprint even though I know you are very fast.”

“What makes you think you could beat me in a sprint?”

The bell rang at the order window, and a girl yelled, “Your order is ready!”

“I’ll get them.” Ellen said and faded off.

“I’ll help, you’ll need it.” Daniel answered and followed after Ellen to the window. He was right and he noticed that Ellen did not know the procedure for eating at the snack shack. He ordered a squeeze bottle of every type of topping. They would have to hand them back through the window when they were done along with the trays and baskets. Daniel ordered his second lemonade.

The rest of the twenty was gone but he did not care as they walked back to the table on this bright sunny morning. She did sit across from him which he thought was odd. But he knew there was something skittish about her. Suddenly she surprised him and asked,

“I really cannot have anyone disturbing my medical practice, really, no strings attached?”

“No, none at all if that is what you want Ellen.” Daniel said as he dressed his hamburger. “Do you want a plastic fork for your fries, I forgot them?”

“We forgot napkins too and yes please?”

Daniel went to the window and was given two forks and he took some napkins. The double was extremely messy, especially with all he would put on it. He returned to his seat and Ellen jumped up from the other side of the table and sat next to him.

“You exude confidence Daniel and you won’t hurt me?” Before he could answer she asked, “No strings attached at all.”

“I am not so sure about confidence but thank you. I will not hurt you Ellen, and none – no strings attached.” He slid over to the right of the curved bench which could hold two as Ellen slid right up against him.

“I am not too close for you to eat?” Ellen asked right up against him.

“It’s fine, you being this close. I like it Ellen, you fit me perfectly.” He said then continued, “But I am a football player and about to eat. Have you witnessed that?”

“I ran long distances. I have not eaten with a football player but we runners we carb you know.”

“Oh good a woman who has to eat for a necessity just like me, it has never happened to me before.” Daniel put ketchup and mustard, then mayonnaise and hot sauce, then relish on his burger and then just drenched the fries with ketchup. He salted and peppered everything and Ellen followed him with her choice of condiments.

“Prayers Ellen?” Daniel asked and paused while she set her burger down and waited, “Good food and good meat. Good God let’s eat!”

“I am ravished. You were heavy.” Ellen said and then there was no talking. It was a super man and woman gnash to the max. Maybe there was some conversation like, ‘Good, or delicious, or I needed that, or things such as wonderful.’

And when they were done, Ellen quietly asked, “You won’t try to find out where I live or anything like that, you will wait until I contact you.”

“Are you a single woman?” Daniel asked before he got himself into trouble.

“I am in the midst of a divorce all is decided and all that I wait for is to sign the papers. My ex-husband is in another country and he will not be coming here. So, yes, I am completely single.”

“No strings attached at all.” Daniel pointed and Ellen’s gaze followed his arm. “I have a house on the next street to the right through that street there, four houses down so I just ran over here. Do you have a car Ellen?”

“Daniel, I do but it is parked safely by so I will just walk home with you if that is alright.”

“Follow me Ellen after I drop this stuff at the window. I’ll take you to my house.” Daniel said as he gathered everything up.

“I’ll do this for us.” Ellen said. And cleaned up so fast and grabbed everything and was out of the bench before Daniel could rise from the bench. She bounced back before Daniel could say ‘what have I gotten myself into’ and said to Ellen,

“Ellen, could I hold your hand?” Daniel asked as they walked and he held out his hand and Ellen took his hand without so much as a second thought.

Her hand did fit just like it belonged in his. He did like the way she ate unabashedly, like him. They made small talk as they walked and he did not want to blow it. She was absolutely beautiful. There were a few lines around her eyes but he did not think she was older than he was and in a no strings attached, this could be the one time and the only time for them. He would not mess it up. They turned right on his street. She remarked that the neighborhood was new and very pretty, though the trees were still small.

Great post @jeff-kubitz
I like it.
A great man is a man who respects and glorifies a woman. Many of us say no woman no cry. Say it to a man who says like that: no woman no you ..!
