Hi @afolwalex, I fell in love and enjoy your story. And totally agreed on the ending. This what would I do if I was Richard. Do not judge people by his cloth. This was what Rachael did, and it also reflected her own true character.
In my country, eating with hand is very natural and usual way of how we appreciate our food. We won’t see someone used hand as uncivilized. We used hand to eat chicken and fish. And it tastier than used fork 😊 When I read your story, I knew that this also happen in real world where some people still think that eat with hand is uncivilized.

We have some food we eat with bare hands in my country too. And eating chicken with hands is common, but there are some eateries you wouldn't dare it here. I try my possible best to be myself though.
I can eat with my hands anywhere.

@afolwalex, Actually eating with hand, the food tastier than when you eat it with folk and spoon. Don't you agree? That's why people said " Finger licking good" Actually in my country also similar, some of the eateries, I not dare to eat by hand because they will look at you like alien. But i always make sure drink without a straw.
