I find it interesting that some of the most celebrated literature comes out of essentially breaking institutional (collegiate) rules that are meant to be the boundaries of good taste, quality expression within the written paradigm.
Language is a constantly evolving social construct that is meant to convey ideas, feelings, beliefs, etc. It seems to me that if one exists entirely within the realm of the institutional rules, then an evolution of expression is stymied. To get specific, Junot Diaz does an excellent job blending spanish and english in a very colloquial format the feels extremely authentic, natural - many rules are broken but his writing is the nuts.
I'd like to read a whole novel in well crafted Chinglish to explore the thoughts/ideas of a chinese immigrant fresh of the boat in america...could be a fascinating study into the mind of a person going through that transition - I personally could never experience that situation, but the writer can illuminate it for us.
