Geek Fiction: Like Toilet Paper

in #fiction8 years ago

The giant 3D printer made a large beep when it was finished. This was their fourth planet. It was designed, like the others, to look like Earth. But without all that smog and heat. Everyone stepped off the ship. They breathed in the fresh air. It had been weeks since they had, simulated oxygen was keeping them alive since. A bee landed on the hand of one of the man as he took off his helmet. It flapped its wing. It looked so real. The drone then flew off into the distance.

The human looked at the flowers and the trees, the view of the moon and the view of the three desolate planets around them. Then they got bored.

"Alright let's go back to the ships."

The people went back inside to be entertained. On the planet several robots paved through the greenery. One placed steel and glass down as the others got rid of chunks of forest. In two weeks they would have several cities, all with malls in the center of them.

"Maybe we should treat this one better?" one of the women in the ship said.

Everyone laughed.

"Good one Janis, I already set Carl to work on the design for the next planet."

They all heard the sound of running in the distance. Carl ran into the room in a panic. There was sweat running down his face.

"We have a problem, the 3D printer, it can't print anymore."

"What?"

"This planet... it is our only one."

Everyone looked out the window. They frowned as a robot knocked down the last tree.

Loved and hated it!! But please, oh , please keep writing!

This reminded me of some of the light, but pointed stuff we published when I read for Asimov's magazine.

Feghoots in particular were favorites. Feghoots are basically a cousin to the "shaggy dog " stories, but punned.

Cool, what was it liking reading for them? I submitted so many places over the years, Asimov is one.
