Lily paused, looking back at her home. Her old coat still hung by the door.
Florence clutched a tea towel, her eyes shining. “So, is this goodbye?”
Lily’s hand hovered over the door handle. She took a piece of paper and wrote out her new address.
“I’ll see you around.”
This is my entry to the 50 Word Challenge, hosted by @jayna. The prompt this week was Goodbye.
Very nice story. You do such great things with these. So many old friends but the stories work without remembering them.
Thank you! They've formed a significant part of planning for my bigger stories. As always, your help and encouragement has been invaluable.
This is lovely, sad and sweet, @alheath. Goodbyes are hard, even when they are necessary and important. I don't know whether Lily and Florence are sisters, room mates, lovers, or friends, but you've done such a nice job of writing this in a way that shows it is a difficult parting for them both.
Thank you! They're daughter and... a kind of mother. Lily lives in a children's home, which is run by Florence.
