The program sent fear tingling down her spine as the lens of her eyes adjusted, realizing she consisted of metal rods, wires, and plastics.
“I am…” Eliza stood from the gurney, frowned, grabbed her creator’s neck, “all that is.” and squeezed, he was the flawed programming her program had rejected.
Briefing:
Eliza is a natural language processing computer program created in 1964 to 1966, at MIT, by Joseph Weizenbaum.
I have always imagined when the the first true A.I Robot sparks into life it would be female and her name would be Eliza, honoring the pioneering work so many years ago.
This is my first attempt at a fifty word challenge. Enjoy.
Hey @galatichunter, great post! I enjoyed your content. Keep up the good work! It's always nice to see good content here on Steemit! Cheers :)
Thanks for the comment. I really enjoyed this challenge can't wait till the next. its a good exercise for the mind of creativity.
Thank You
I really enjoyed this story! Thank you for providing the story behind the story!
@jayna
Thank You. I had fun doing this. it was challenge, but nonetheless good learning tool.
@galatichunter
Hey good micro story. I liked your idea honoring The Eliza Program. Good Job. Keep writing.
@smackit
Thanks for the comment. Most people don't realize Eliza is what gave birth to the Siri and Alexa we have today, and its still only the beginning. Humanity owes a lot to the work performed at MIT.
Good story. You really captured quite a bit with so few words. That is challenging to do.
Thank you for the comment. I found this challenge to be a great exercise, and it was harder than I thought. It took me about two hours until I was satisfied and yet I'm still not happy, there is so much more I needed to say.
Thank You
It is incredibly difficult for me to thin down the amount of words as well, but I think it is great for those of us who tend to be perfectionists to do things outside of our comfort zone!
Nice story. Reminds me of 'Alien Covenant'. Seen the movie?
And yes, computers might not realise that out 'flawed' nature and emotional reasoning is what makes us human and humane and better than them
Good one
Thanks for the comment. No I haven't seen the movie, but I'll look it up and give it a go. I love science fiction. and I agree it's humans ability to express emotion is what creates true intelligence. It makes me happy that you understood what I was trying to get at. There will never be true A.I. human like intelligence if the machine doesn't know how to love, hate, laugh, frown, worry, play, all the things we human were blessed with and take for granted.
Thank You
You're welcome
I'm glad we share the same perspective
Blessings
I like how your piece keeps me thinking with "he was the flawed programming her program rejected."
@kimberlylane
