Getting to know you

in #fiftywords7 years ago (edited)

This is a a 50-word short story based on a "zoo" prompt by @miniature-tiger. These very short short stories are a huge challenge for me, because I tend to write very lengthy sentences and lengthy stories. In this story I'm trying to convey in exactly 50 words that feeling when a courtship is not going well. It's one of the sillier things I've written, inspired by the picture of the giraffe.

Getting to know you

The zoo was Reed’s idea. Sheila said sure. She liked lemurs.

In the Africa area, Reed pointed. “Hey, that giraffe looks like you.”

“What?”

It was their second date. The first was beer at Mel’s.

“I mean... you have a nice long neck.”

Sheila pointed. “That baboon looks like you.”

Thank you for reading!

Haha that giraffe looks so happy. He honestly looks happy enough to be somebodies pet almost.

I love that adorable giraffe too! The picture captured my heart. Thank you for reading and commenting!

This is so good @jayna. Glad to see you doing these little stories. Awesome.

Thank you, @authorofthings! I find them challenging. It’s really fun to try to create a complete story in just 50 words. Thanks for reading and commenting. @miniature-tiger is creating a nice little community around this art form. I saw you on the list. I look forward to reading yours!

Outbreak of foot-in-mouth disease at the zoo!

Although that giraffe does look a little like someone I used to go out with. It's the horns mainly. ;)

That’s hilarious. Thank you for the laugh!

Hahaha, this is so cute!

2nd date, huh? Somehow I feel like there wasn't a third....

I would highly doubt it, myself! But if he’s really suave and can do a clever face-saving maneuver, who knows? 😄

LOL do you want to place bets that there's not going to be a third date?? Very cute! This could be added to an article entitled Things
Not to Say On a Date.

I agree! I feel compassion for poor Reed, though. I imagine he meant it in the nicest possible way. 😁

LOL! This made me smile!

Oh good. Mission accomplished! 😀

Ha Ha! Awesome. Yep- I don't think their date is getting off on the right foot here. C'est la vie!

No, it doesn’t seem to be very promising, does it? I’m glad it made you laugh. It’s pretty silly! Thank you for visiting and commenting!

Lol, I was waiting for the reaction from Reed. That was great.

I agree! I’m kind of curious how he might respond too. If Reed is the strong and confident type, he might diffuse the situation by walking around her in a circle, his hands dangling down and making primate noises to amuse her. But if he is the numskull he would seem to be from his actions so far, he would maybe stand there silently for a moment and then stammer, “Want a hot dog? I’m kind of hungry.”

What do you think? 😊

Lol since I tend to think I'm funny at times, I can see myself having him do the imitation. But, if she was not into joking, probably the hot dog would be a smarter move. But who wouldn't crack up seeing someone do that so randomly? :-)
I can't wait to continue my zoo one. It was left hanging too, lol.

Thank you for mentioning it. I will go find yours!

Wow, I thought I marked you to follow. I just looked, and now following. :-)

That happens to me sometimes too!

Hahahhahaha! Very funny! Poor Reed... he was trying a little too hard. :'D

A perilous maneuver on a first date! I'm glad it made you laugh!
