The future of Alien film franchise seems to be getting bleak. Director Ridley Scott has talked about the Alien: Covenant sequel. However, due to the mediocre earnings and scores for the Prometheus sequel, the latest Alien movie that had been planned, may have been cancelled. Ace Showbiz reported Wednesday that a source claiming to work on Alien: Covenant, recently stated in the forum Blu-ray.com that the next movie scheduled to start pre-production this month has now been cancelled.
Worse, the storage warehouse filled by the alien's fifth property and props have recently been auctioned. "The Covenant sequel was originally scheduled to start reproducing this month in Sydney," the source said."After the results at the box office, the shoot was cancelled and a storage unit full of shooting items was auctioned off a few months ago, so the original plan to release the next movie quickly has certainly changed without a short-term plan for anything," he explained Alien sequel: Covenant.
However, the authenticity of the source can not be confirmed. However, it is not surprising that Fox actually cancelled his plan to release the Alien: Covenant sequel, Because the latest Alien film is not much preferred either by critics of observers or audiences cinema. Most of the viewers are not very comfortable with a mixture of classic Alien formulas mixed with religious themes, creation, and other things that are not related to things in outer space.
Director Ridley Scott told IGN in May 2017 that the Alien: Covenant sequel, estimated to be titled Awakening, will begin filming within 14 months thereafter, A story in Alien: The Covenant itself happened many years after the Prometheus movie focusing on the crew of the Covenant ship that discovered uncharted places. Presumed a new heaven, the place is actually a dark and dangerous world.

Not a big fan of the last Alien films, I am more interested in what Denis Villeneuve can bring to the franchise.
He worked wonders with Blade Runner 2049. If he's involved, I'm in!
Absolutely! He would be perfect to take on a franchise like this. I don't think Villeneuve is doing it anymore or whatever happened to that?
Personally, I like the new direction Prometheus and Covenant took the franchise in. It's worth remembering that at this point, half of all the Alien movies have been directed by Scott (not counting AVP 1 and 2).
The first four Alien films all had a very similar format, and I loved seeing the universe being expanded, and origin questions being answered, in the last two offerings.
