I will start and say I have not seen all of Death note the Anime, what I have seen I really liked.
The Movie on Netflix, I found it sort of okay, does it do the anime right, no but it has some good things in it. The fantastic William Dafoe as the voice of Ryuk was perfect casting wise. And even the design of Ryuk was good, I really liked that he mostly was in the darkness, atleast from the start, as creature like that is better in the dark.
I didn't like the whitewashing though or the American setting.
But in many ways I would say the Movie is good for people that doesn't want to see hours of episodes.
I will keep on watching the anime though, but I would have loved a movie closer to the source material, and I hope in 10 years that a reboot will be done.
