Year: 2014

Director: Rowan Joffé.
Cast: Nicole Kidman, Mark Strong, Colin Firth, Anne-Marie Duff.

Plot

Christine Lucas is a 47-year-old woman who, following an accident she suffered when she was 25, is unable to remember the past and to retain the most recent memories. Every day when she wakes up thinks is single and young, but, like every day, discovers that this is not the case.

Opinion

Can you imagine awakening a completely disoriented morning, and then, through a stranger, finding out that you have forgotten the last 22 years of your life? Well that is precisely what happens to Christine, the protagonist of this story, a 47-year-old woman who wakes up with her husband Ben, who explains that she suffered an accident and as a result wakes up every morning without knowing what happened the day previous.

Shortly after she is contacted by Dr. Nasch, a neuropsychologist, with whom she has been doing therapy without mentioning it to Ben, and who gives him a camera with the intention that Christine record their daily experiences and thus receive information from herself every morning and not of her husband Ben. Then the film backs the story two weeks ago, to show us every day discoveries that Christine was making about her life to the present.

Although the film is based on the 2011 novel Before I Go to Sleep by S. J. Watson, I must say that it reminded me a lot The Girl on the Train.

The direction work is good, it manages to keep the audience intrigued and waiting for what will happen next, maintains a classic climate of mystery and psychological thriller, in addition, it is accompanied by a script, which seems to be the strong point of the film, because has a twist in the plot that took me by surprise, and although it was obvious that the story would have a twist, and I thought I had already resolved, I was finally surprised. However, I feel that the last 10 minutes of the movie were not necessary, and that the climax could have been better.

The performances are fine, however, I feel that none of the actors did a job out of the ordinary, everything was pretty basic, and I think that played against the film.

I think the film make an insurance bet and with it ends up winning, apply all the basic rules and then surprise the audience with a twist, enough to determine it as an acceptable and possibly recommendable film.
