Today, ‘The Dark Tower’, got released in India. I had a bit of expectations from the movie because of its huge star cast. I'm a huge fan of Matthew and Idris. But, this movie fails to showcase their full potential. It’s a kind of a movie which makes you feel like you want to watch and also not watch at the same time. The underlying plot is strong, but it felt like there was room for better.
The plot of the movie is like any other action film. The bad guy wants to destroy the planet and the good guy wants to save it. The story is very straight forward, but there's a third character, a kid, who possesses the ‘power of shining’. If you have seen Stanley Kubrick's movie ‘The Shining’, you will have a little idea about the power of shining, because both ‘Dark Tower’ and ‘The Shining’ was written by the same author, Stephen King.
It looked like the film makers were in a hurry while making this film. The scenes didn't have subtexts, everything is very direct. It looked like the scenes were made just for the sake of pushing the story forward. There was no importance given to the characters. All the characters were very interesting, but the film failed to explore into the characters.
A few good points about the film are the action scenes are perfectly done. The director Nikolaj Arcel has a good sense of rhythm when it comes to action sequences. The bus fight was amazing, but few other scenes looked cliché and ripped off from Matrix.
Most of the novel adoptions, fail to depict the characters from the book , which is really important. A novel can do this easily, but when it is turned into a film it loses its power. When this happens, the film makers should be able to change the original story to make it more powerful for the screen. There are a lot of differences in the book and the film of ‘The Godfather’. But, this is a very risky move. Because, if the film flops after the changes are made into the original story the blame goes to the writers and the director.

Thank you for reading, I’m a daily blogger and for more posts like this follow me. Cheers!
I think I wrote this to everyone who reviewed this movie. It's the screen writer! He is so terrible, that everything he touches turns to horrible movies, case in point, he, Akiva Goldsman, also wrote: Transformers: The Last Knight, King Arthur: Legend of the Sword, The 5th Wave, The Divergent Series: Insurgent. But because he has an Oscar he will get work from now till he decides to retire. A not experienced director doesn't help either. But the movie was cheap to make, so maybe it will break even.
True that @readingdanvers
"You can watch this film while you are texting. "
omg, what happened to cinema if that's considered even barely acceptable.. :-(
Hey @herverisson, I meant it like a joke. I do respect cinema a lot.
OMG, I'm very much a fan of the literary series, but they missed the chance to make a storyline of a sensational film sequence. They did this crap.
