How to make the best work in anything related to creativity?

in #film7 years ago

First of all, the title of this post may feel catchy. But, I must say this before you go on reading the entire post. This post is not a solid answer to the question in the topic. This is my journey of finding the answer of this very question. So, I used to always wonder how do some of the people get so creative. I used to ask myself if they had a special organ inside their brain that I didn't or if they made a deal with god or devil to give them this power. So, what I did is I went on looking for creative people in many different fields of work and I started to look for patterns about what makes them so good at the things they do. The answers may surprise you.

Creatives like Walt Disney, Steve Jobs, Steven Spielberg, Picasso, DaVinci and others all had one thing in common. This is probably one of the most important thing I noticed. And I think we all can implement it in our lives to make us more creative. The one thing is that they were always looking for creating something new. This sounds simple, but if you really think about it its hard. Its not easy to create some thing new every time and most of the time the new is scary.

The new comes with a lot of fears. What if it fails? what if no body likes it? what if I lose my carrier? All these are few of the thoughts that occur while doing something original, but the ones who do original work always push these questions aside and do it. If you see the carriers of great artists you will see that the people who have done great work have also done horrible work. Spielberg made movies like Jurassic Park and Jaws, but he also has made Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, Steve Jobs' LISA and Macintosh failed to make it big in the market costing a loss of hundreds of millions of dollars and there are so many failures even in the portfolios of the people who we call visionaries and innovators. There is one thing that keeps them doing it over and over again that most of us lack.

The one thing is Grit. The grit is the ability to push the failures aside and going back to the drawing board. Grit gives the creatives the strength to keep it going. Because, all of them know that in the long run people remember the wins that the lose. Even if you fail you can learn a lot from failures. Failures are bad, failures are horrible, but failures is like an investment that you do to make your future better. Andrew Stanton, the director and writer of Wall-E, says "Fail early and fail fast". Failure is like a tetanus shot that may hurt a lot when you take it, but it makes you healthy for the future. Every single artist who we call great have been through failures, the ones who push past the failure become great, others gets a 9 to 5 job.

One of the things that fascinated me the most are few people or few companies that have almost never failed.  One of the biggest names in architecture in this era is Bjarke Ingles, he is the owner of BIG, the firm he founded. He has a reputation for designs that are ground breaking every single time.  And there is Pixar, the animation studio that only failed twice in its carrier lasting decades. So, what makes these people be so successful? Well, the answer is really simple. Bjarke Ingles in one of his talks said " I create lot of bad designs in the paper, to come up with good designs in the city". People like these go through enormous amount of trail and error and also testing. Before, making one film the Pixar studio makes 4 films each films with the help of sketching and with each film they improve, and which finally leads to the movie.

These are the few things I noticed. What do you think is the answer? Do let me know.
