Yesterday I talked about “Mugal-e-Azam” today we’ll look into Indians yet another legendary film which came a decade later than “Mughal-e-Azam”. Today's film is “Sholay”. If you are an Indian and if someone asked you “Have you seen Sholay?” and you happen to answer “No” then you will be laughed at continously, till you go and watch it, at least that's what happens in my college. A movie to be engraved into a countries culture is something that almost never happens. Yet, after 40 years of its release it keeps entertaining.
“Sholay” is a story of two outlaws Jai and Veeru, both of them are friends and they are ready to do anything for each other. They are good at what they do and most importantly they both know it. Their story takes an interesting turn when they will be hired by an ex policeman Takur. Takur will know them both because of their notorious reputation and he knows that they both are good for the job. The job is pretty straightforward , there is a dangerous robber Gabbar Singh who loots his village with his gang both the men are to catch him and bring him to Takur alive.
The movie is about outlaws catching outlaws for the good of people. But, being an outlaw is a curse on its own when you are playing the role of heroes. They will have to conquer their urges first to capture Gabbar. The story is not about heros catching villain. It's about villains changing into heros to catch a villain.
The movie also put Jay and Veers as a benchmark for friendship and brotherhood among the Indians. Both of these characters have been remembered all these years by as a symbol of friendship and brotherhood and they will still remain to be so.
Let's talk about Gabbar Singh here. He is a ruthless bloodthirsty criminal whose actions are inhumane. Sounds like a typical bad guy isn't it. We’ll not really. There is a scene in the movie where he will loot the entire village and will give justification for his actions. He lives in his own world where whatever he talks becomes the constitution. He isn't afraid of anyone and he is a legend.
The most interesting feature of this film is that the characters don't have an origin story. They all just come from no where, but yet they all manage to connect with the audience to the deepest levels. This is something that has puzzled me for many years.

frameborder="0" gesture="media" allow="encrypted-media" allowfullscreen></iframe>A highly recommended movie for everyone. If you are an Indian and haven't yet watched it, why are you even alive? Ok, that was just a joke don't shoot me for that now. Thank you for reading this post. For more posts and reviews on movies follow me. Cheers!
