My other half and I saw this at the cinema and we enjoyed it. It's not an action movie. It's about the sort of journalists we still need who have to fight against governments who try to cover up the truth. That can be harder these days as the papers don't make as much money and anyone can have a prominent voice online. You still need to build a reputation to be trusted.
I thought it was well made and captured some of the tension of the events. It was obviously angling for Oscars, but I really don't care about those.
I'm not an action movie sort of guy so that's never what I'm looking for in a film, I want interesting characters and a gripping narrative neither of which I found here, and I agree with you on your point about journalists which is why it was even more disappointing that I wasn't invested in the outcome, it just wasn't for me.
