@ekpickle, awesome post and observations. Thanks for sharing! I recently rewatched Jurassic Park (the original) and was pretty surprised that the roles of women in the 90s version were illustrated / portrayed with way more badassery than in the recent remake... curious to hear your thoughts on those two films.

Anyway, looking forward to more!

It's interesting you say that because I think the new Jurassic Park really missed the boat with Bryce Dallas Howard's character. Sometimes when portraying a strong female, filmmakers go to 'bitchy' or unlikeable. Almost as if the only way she could succeed or be in the position of power was if she were ruthless & hard - which are typically seen as more male qualities then female. She's also not particularly good with children. And then they put her in fashionable and fussy clothing... They even make her run around a huge junk of the movie in heels! Not your typical 'final girl' for sure. I'd argue though that this is more action movie then horror film so maybe the parallels aren't as similar? An interesting thought for another post!
