Joining a stock video platform

in #filmmaking5 years ago

I recently made my application to join a stock-footage agency..

It’s called Black Box
It’s quite simply a system/organisation that makes distributing stock video clips to multiple organisations at the same time really easy.

And the main thing that they seem to do is remove the financial headaches of dealing with multiple accounts, contributors, splitting money with contributors etc. (which exactly what I want from a platform like that)

(still yet to use his Hive account!) has talked about to me before.
So we decided to start doing things together and supporting each other over lockdown in creating some fun clips.Stock clip filming is an area that my good pal @jackshootsstuff

So to get started..

I’ve submitted a little demo reel I quickly put together of my previous work that has a non-descript stock-clip feel to it. (I.e no faces, no outstanding features, no story, no over powering characters etc)

These clips are actually taken from various music videos, event videos and business promos I’ve shot over the last 5 or so years.

If you’re interested you can see my demo video (in a private unlisted link) here:

Black Box looks like a great professional platform with a strong community who value quality and skill.
However, aside from those positives, I also really like the idea of passive income.. that’s what Black Box and stock footage is good at doing too.

So for example, when a client wants to buy one of my clips to use in their commercial edit, I get paid.
If another person wants to use the same clip in say, a documentary, I get paid again.
If it’s somehow becomes a sought after clip and becomes really successful then it would keep making me money for years to come.
If it’s not, then hey-ho. That’s cool too. I will be making hundreds of clips, and I don’t expect them all to make money.
But I like the idea of one becoming a success and thus making money for old rope :)

Once I’m setup on the system I’m really looking forward to shooting

I want to only shoot what I think is most likely to be selected.
So I need to do my research on popular up-coming trends that brands might want for their social content, or documentary, or corporate film.
I’m thinking anything that represents community and connection (amidst this pandemic) might do pretty well.
Of course seasonal stuff could work nicely but it’s perhaps over saturated.

Thinking about it, I’m not sure there are many visuals that convey blockchain technology... other than, showing graphics from The Matrix or Tron.
Maybe that’s something to work on trying to visualise? Or maybe not haha

One thing I do need to visualise is HIVE. That’s on my to-shoot list. :)

I’ll let you know how I get on with his new platform and I’d be interested to know if other have any experience of it too.

Cheers for watching and reading, @ashtv.

Thank you for letting us know about this! This is also EXACTLY what I've been looking for! Great share!

Wow, you’re very welcome, glad my share is of value to someone

I've been on the platform for about 6 months or so. I've overall had a good experience but it's by no means quick money or easy.

Yeah I don’t expect it to be easy or quick.
Just a nice nest egg if something picks up.

Glad you’ve had a good experience on it.
What’s your profile?

Yea I've made a little bit of money but not very much.

My profile is my email

Great!
I’m interested to give it a proper shot. So to speak :)

sounds interesting. i tried some stock photo sites, i don't shoot a lot of stuff for stock, and uploading on multiple sites with all the right tags is kinda long hours work. i did manage to get few $ from it, and as i uploaded small amount of photos, i did not expect even that few $. now you reminded me, maybe i should buy hive with it.

would be interesting to see your process and what do you think about it. don't have enough quality videos for that, but maybe some drone stuff could pass.
