One thing I like about creating art is expressing my feelings in a safe environment; designing characters I relate to and making comics about them; drawing pictures and places my mind has brought to me without any prompting. And nobody needs to know why I made it or what it meant to me at the time.
Even so, I think art plays an important part in changing one’s thoughts and feelings. When I feel down, I often like to make happy art, things with happy people in beautiful landscapes, bright colours and very little artistic depth. It takes me out of the places in my mind where everything is hopeless and scary and forces me back into a mindset from which I can imagine happiness. It helps me to get through the day and remember all the good things in my life.
And that’s why I made this fairy house; it’s covered in fairy lights with a bright pink letter box and roses and I can just imagine fairies and baby dragons frolicking joyfully in a whole village of such houses. It makes me feel happy, and like I’ll be alright in the end. I hope you’ll be alright in the end, too.
