As crazy and stupid this may sound right now I promise you'll find it makes some good money sense. This is a concept used by the many wealthy people and anyone who'd like to have some financial freedom in their lives. I'm pretty sure you've heard someone whom you know has plenty of money say they don't have any money. Yeah, you know those stingy people that can't even spare a single dollar even if you begged them. Well, they may be wealthy but they probably not as wealthy as you thought they were.
I remember being puzzled by this phenomenon which seemed to be consistent with fairly rich people. Whenever I would ask the person to lend me a few bucks they would make excuses up about how they don't have money. Until this day if I want to borrow a few bucks I go to the "broke" people because they always have money which they're willing to lend. Why the average person always has money to spare, I still don't know. I wrote a post in last week's finance blog titled "Broke People Like To Pay For Things They Shouldn't Be Paying For" in case you're curious.
But this doesn't make any sense at all, how does the average person have money to spend and the rich person doesn't? I'll explain why in a few moments.
I've come to learn and still learning that in life the most unusual things are usually the correct ones. Many times I've had the WTF!? moments after hearing a shocking statement like 'Aim to always be broke', only to be replaced by the AHA! moment, later on. Such is the concept of always being broke.
AIM TO ALWAYS BE BROKE
The reason why most people who are considered financially rich by society have the finer things in life is that they have learned and mastered the art of being broke. They never have money because they spend it as soon as they get it. Think about it, why have money if it's just going to chill in your wallet? Having money around that's doing nothing is probably what makes broke people pay for things they shouldn't be paying for because after all money is meant to be spent.
The real secret here (wait for it...) is spending your money on things that make you more money. Psshh I knew that... of course, you did but did you? Many of us are trying hard to live "rich" by buying all these fancy things that only lead us to being broke literally and only a few weeks later we want to buy more, you know so we can "progress". Our financial lives end up resembling a rat race where we're just running around in circles like a hamster in a wheel.
Being broke by the standards of the rich is simply having spent all their money on assets until there's nothing left but funds for daily expenses and emergencies. The beauty of owning or investing in assets is that you're giving your money a 24 hour job to increase your wealth and you don't even have to feel sorry for it because it doesn't need rest.
Having your money work for you is well worth being broke. I'd rather be broke than working for my money only to pass it on to someone else by the end of the month and yet still broke I would be. Whenever I am faced with a task to make money I no longer think of how hard I need to work instead, I think how smart do I have work.
This rat race we're in of working just so we can pay bills is hard to escape because we don't even realize we're in it. It's like the donkey unknowingly chasing after a carrot that's being swayed above its head. We don't even think about escaping this rat race based on the fear that we might lose because if so many people (our family & friends) are partaking in this rat race then it must mean it is the real deal. Well, it is not and the only way to escape it is to realize that you're running in the race of laps which you didn't sign up for, you need to be running in the marathon event.
If you're a person that has long term ambitions and dreams then you need to join the marathon because your finish line isn't just around the bend but it is up and over that mountain blocking its view. Don't sprint when you should be jogging otherwise you might as well take a sit and watch as a bystander.
Stay broke, work smart and escape the rat race.

Solid, useful advice, something my late father might have told me. Real estate and rentals seem to be solid also.

This was good, had me worried for a second but making your money work for you is the biggest thing people tend to forget about having it. Excited to read the other post broke people like to spend money on thingsthey should, I've been dealing with some friends who love buying gallons of water. Been trying to convince them they can just freeze a few bottles of tap.
Hahaha, I bet you're not making any sense to them when you say that. I'm glad you enjoyed the post, thank you!
