Revenge of Yayo Che

Contest Introduction:

In the dawn of the Peruvian Jungle landscape, a Sendero Luminoso member spotted five OH-6 Cayuse helicopters but waived the anti-aircraft to not launch their load – the soldier radioed in that they finally came and to approach the compound. In these five helis, paratroopers were carrying Russian AK74s and were armoured up. In the leading one, a certain lass finishes her cigar, then picks up the radio and begins to drum up a blood frenzy:

"In Cuba, the Cubans celebrate a hero - name’s Che. In the World of drugs, we got our own Che – he of course went by many names like el Rey de Yayo, but we know him as Yayo Che. A heart in a heartless world, a spirit in spirit conditions and a sigh of us oppressed folk. Yet the World couldn’t stand this – so the World robbed us of him! Killed anyone that followed him! And humbled our pride!... But from the mud we rechristened our humbled pride, determined to show them gusanos what the dirt tastes and show them who the real cockroaches are! For if you mess with us, you’re messing with the BEST! And today marks… El Día de Juicio!”

As she released her radio, she heard from the radio static chants of “!Yayo Che!” and “!El Día de Juicio!” She saw from the dashboard that they were closing in to the compound, the place of theculo that ordered the hit – the Cuban Government intel was correct and she owned them a solid. Funny that they supported her endeavors, but she stopped laughing internally when she realized that political maneuvers and combatting La CIA influence was priority when it came to these matters. Considering this mission as her main payment to the Cubans, she snapped her mag into the AK74 and racked it.

Approaching closer, the pilot asked when to start popping the missiles and rain the lead thunder – her only reply being was “on my signal.” The pilot saluted and began to steer the OH-6 Cayuse into combat formation, resulting in the other helis following suit – she radioed in to the pilots to prepare for contact with anti-air craft and to rain hell, then she ordered to hang and kick the assassin’s corpse out. Moments later seeing her command followed, the pilot asked one last question before they got danger-close:

“¿Estás listo, Yayo Che?”

“¡Sí! Let the lead thunder start hammering the World! Let ‘em know El Día de Juicio!”

Soon she and her paratroopers parachuted and began their descent into the Jungle, there was no coming back and now they had to put all their hearts into it. She briefed all of them a million times on what was to be expected, the ins and outs of the compound and aid from el Sendero Luminoso – they were all going to move as one Arm, one Heart and one Spirit, for they had nothing to lose and everything to gain. El Día de Juicio truly began.

My Entry:

Yayo Che landed with practised ease on the jungle floor. The thuds of her comrades landing spanned around her. She unbuckled her parachute and checked her weapon again. She motioned for everyone to close formation.

The men she had with her were mostly hired thugs that were owing a debt, a few young faces filled the ranks. They followed her command easily.

They began the climb towards the compound, the leader swinging a machete to hack at the dense jungle underbrush. The younger men were starting to get restless, they were anxious for their first taste of war.

They could hear the fire opening on the compound from above. Lights shined through the gaps in the bush.

Yayo Che’s heart hammered in her chest. She thought of the original el Rey de Yayo, each step she took felt like a step closer to revenge. The man had had many secrets, herself being one of his biggest. They had wed in secret when she was still a child, but he had been kind and thoughtful towards her. It was a deal her father had made. She had been young and naive back then, now she knew better, she knew what it was to love a man.

Yayo Che had taken up the mantle her husband had left her when he had been hunted down and killed; the World had massacred an entire generation of men. It had been a heavy burden to bare, but his men, her men, had thirsted for vengeance for the death of their Rey. Yayo Che was only too happy to accept their demands.

The leader of the crew stopped. They were at the edge of the jungle. Yayo Che stepped up to the front line observing their position. Helicopters circled overhead raining hellfire into the heart of the compound. Voices rose up from within its walls.

A door opened on the side of the building. Yayo Che made a signal and as one the troops ran for the entrance.

They entered the place of chaos and eliminated any and all threats.

The World burned.

In the centre of the building, a cell held six people, guarded by only two men who were fearing for their lives.

One of the prisoners laughed.

“They are going to kill you for your mistake. You should never have crossed el Rey de Yayo. El Día de Juicio!”

The people around him started shouting “El Día de Juicio!”

The building shook from an explosion.

The leader of the prisoners prepared himself for the impending escape.

“Aquí!”

Yayo Che followed the voice. It lead to a room in the heart of the building. Two men lay dead, their blood spreading across the floor. The prisoners were being freed.

Yayo Che found the face she had been searching for, her son. He rushed towards her. They embraced for several minutes. Tears filled her eyes as relief washed over her.

She had not seen her son for years, the cubans had made a deal with el Rey de Yayo when he was still a boy.

She turned to her men.

“Kill anyone left standing. The World dies today.”

They just rolled up and just swagger'd an entrance in, what holds in store for Yayo Che? The Drug War, Cubans, Sendero Luminoso and Drug Empires - all awaits her the Day After. And looks like she'll get more hands to better her struggle. Upvot'd and resteem'd.

I loved the mix of feelings and action. You also gave a lot of depth to the character of Yayo Che and her roots and family. Well done, ¡que viva el Rey!

I was wondering if you would have written a full war story, but I was pleased to see you introduced a family and love theme. Nice!
