For a disciplined individual, there can be a distinct difference in practice and coaching. For those trying to bridge the gap between the two, I recommend recording yourself shooting. If you are shooting at a range that does not belong to you, then please seek approval from the range safety officer before doing so.
Watching your performance can be an uncomfortable practice. But I encourage you to try this. In many cases you can use the camera on your phone. Try to set the lens to view yourself at full length to critique form and stance. I also recommend a close up of your grip as you can see below. Like many other sports, shooting drives one to increase their hand/eye coordination with simultaneous muscle conditioning. And as the Great Mark Rippetoe once said, "...athletes are visual learners."
Another useful tip - if you're at an indoor range with automatic target systems, you can easily ID targets and compare the results with the footage.
