the goblin shark as the last living member of the shark family known as MIT Sakura needy the goblin shark is sometimes called a living fossil they are thought to have been roaming the seas since long before the dinosaurs over a hundred million years ago named for its peculiar long nose and protruding jewel line with extremely sharp fang-like teeth the goblin shark is definitely one of the strangest looking creatures alive today their appearance is made even more bizarre by their flabby translucent skin in other words the skin of these sharks is literally see-through they typically grow to between 10 and 13 feet long but since they live at depths of 500 feet or more they do not pose any real danger to humans instead goblin sharks happily feed on crabs squid and other deep-sea animals
