Molongolo Carp

in #fishing7 years ago (edited)

The Molongolo River flows through Canberra on its course to the Murrimbidgee. It is dammed at Scriviner dam to form Lake Burley Griffin. Above the lake there is a nice stretch of river. I often go fishing there. Used to catch a lot of natives and trout, now it is mostly carp and redfin, but it is still a great place to go for a relaxing fish.

Well caught sir. man life looks good there, happy for you.

Canberra is a great place to live.

Thanks.

I love fishing... Was fond of doing that while alot younger. Good to see you're into fish too.... Enjoy

Love fish, and fishing, and where it takes me. You should give it another go.

What's the largest carp anyone's had out, do you know? Are there any monsters lurking in the depths?

Don't know how big they get, but there are some in the mid teen Kilos. The biggest I have seen is an 11.7KG fish, weighed at the local shop because my scales topped out at 10kg. She was a big fish.

I have been busted up by some monsters that I really had no chance of stopping on 3kg line. They take off and it is just hang on for the ride.

I have heard of a couple getting up around 20kg, but am yet to land one of those whales. They have only been a regular species in our waters since the 60s, but they are getting bigger and way too abundant. It will be nice to get into some of them in a few more years.

That's a shame, 10kg fish are quite common here if you know how and where to fish for them - 20kg fish only once or twice a year - i know there are larger fish at places like Big Bend on the Murray but access is poor to none existent. As soon as you put any feed in, the small fish move in and push the big ones out.
