I want to talk to you about a method of identifying movement patterns in order to maximize mobility, motor control, strength, performance and even weight loss.
From early in my career I have had a vision for what kind of trainer I wanted to be and what kind of training program I wanted to conduct and be part of.
Every human being is unique, so therefore each client’s program needs to be carefully coordinated to achieve their specific goals and needs. Rather than using a one-size-fits-all approach, my approach looks at each client as an individual. I apply a systematic and scientific approach that guarantees results. This is done by assessing each client’s needs based on functional ability.
That is why I decided to specialize in programing system called FMS, that would allow me to be part of a great community of fitness professional as well as being able to taylor my client’s exercise program.
Functional Movement Screen, or FMS, is a way to identify faulty movement patterns, the custom made program will be allowing you to move better for whatever activity you want to be part of and ultimately continuing moving well by connecting with your body.
So with the Screen every individual will be able to show me how well they are moving and if they have imbalances?
What are imbalances?
While screening I am essentially looking for imbalances or Asymmetries.
Imbalances are when one part of the body compensates for the counter part.
Why do we care about imbalances?
Well imbalances can affect your daily life with pain, that can be chronic pain in you back your, knees your neck which can keep you from doing your regular activities.
Why do imbalances happened?
Imbalances can happen for many reasons but the most common is repeated movement.
As I mentioned, one part of the body will compensate for weaker counter part. A sedentary lifestyle or someone who spends many hours each day working in front of a computer will more than likely develop tight hip flexors, rounded shoulders, protruded neck and weak glutes.
This repetitive position turns into muscle memory and our body “saves” this posture as normal , even when we stand, and is even more enhanced when we move.
Injuries - even those that happened 20, 30 years ago. These can be injuries from sports or car accidents. The trauma from these injuries can create asymmetries in the body and faulty movement patterns, and event worse re injury on the exact same joint.
Even non sedentary lifestyle. Athletes, construction workers, chiropractors! The repeated movements from these professions can also create imbalances as they favor 1 side of the body and compensate with that same side.
Which is why FMS is currently utilized in the NFL, NBA, Soccer teams in Europe, the fire and police departments also use FMS for their agents and field officers.
But truly everyone can benefit from it.
I hope you like my post and stay tune for more information
