It's now February, and with the end of the prior month came the end of the challenge: to run (and walk) 100 miles with my friend for a good cause. Although it had its ups and downs, I successfully completed the challenge, and with no time to spare! It was the coldest month of the year, I was completely unprepared, there were many setbacks, and even an injury, and all I can say is that I'm proud of my accomplishment and ready for the next one! This last week and a half of running was intense in terms of miles, I had to run almost 50 miles in 10 days, which meant that every day I went to work I was traveling by foot. The intensity of this last push was more than I could handle, and therefore a lot of the days travel times are worse than I would have liked, but I wanted to make sure I kept enough energy to actually complete the challenge so that I didn't end up only a few miles away from the goal by the month's end. My pacing for this month was wild and erratic, and the next time I do something like this, I am going to make sure to maintain a steady pace, both in terms of the actual running, and the scheduling.
I am going to continue running/walking to work and back frequently. I really enjoy the solitude and relaxation that comes from making the journey by foot, and the time it takes to get to work gives me a great opportunity for thinking and meditation. After doing this for a month, I have more energy, patience, and determination. My goal is still to get to the point where I can run a 5k in 45 minutes, but maybe one day that goal will be to run a marathon, or at least participate in one! Thank you for reading and following my progress and updates, I'll likely post more if anything exciting happens while on my trips!
