Onwards and Upwards: Climbing Hundreds of Feet!

Onwards and Upwards

Steemit Community! What Do You Do For Fun?

One of my favorite things is rock climbing!  It is physically, mentally, emotionally and strategically challenging. It is technical and puzzling. I believe I enjoy it mostly due to the fact that Nature provides these puzzles that need solved to ascend.

This is a photograph of myself leading a tricky route called Land of Nod at the climbing area Jackson Falls.  It may not seem so from the picture but this was my crux (the most difficult section of the pitch).  It is a sport route rated at 5.10b. If one were to imagine that walking up a steep hill were 5.0, climbing a ladder were 5.1 and shimmying onto a roof from a ladder were 5.2, you can imagine how difficult this route was to find placement for my hands and feet.

This is a photograph of me and my past climbing partner, Matt, on a  traditional route in Oklahoma. It took nearly an hour to find this route in a place called the Refuge.  We had to hike our gear past wild prairie dogs, buffalo and lots of rabbits.  The route was only five hundred feet high following the obvious crack.  It was a slab route which means it was made of large sections of less than ninety degree climbing. This is my favorite type because using footwork I am able to levitate like a Jedi. The topout was tricksy to protect and fearing a fall that may injure our feet or ankles, we traversed to finish.

As this fantastic social experiment may be on the way to becoming a  community or another Reddit, I'd like to get to know more about the  members. What hobbies do you have? What are your interests? Are  we fully harnessing Steemit and how using our various backgrounds can we  improve it?

Drop me a line. Let us shape this site, its content and its projectory.

P.S. I have more information about this hobby and others on my blog:

Here is my introduction to climbing for those that don't understand some of the jargon I am using

This is a piece I wrote about my artistic endeavors

This extremely awesome!!!! You should really get a GO PRO and strap it on for some cool videos. I bet some of the views you have seen are breathtaking. great post hmfoucault.

Thanks @peacekeeper I have considered a GoPro but aren't in a financial situation where that is an option just yet. I also fear its durability. During a climb in Vegas, I dropped a piece of gear more than 500 feet and it was pretty messed up. I try carrying a disposable camera with me though. I will try scanning some pictures of topout views.

you have all my respect @hmfoucault hope some day can do something like this!

Anyone can do this! @gekko I began by joining a local climbing club, watching, asking questions and then trying my best. Outdoor shops are another great place to meet folks that can teach you.

That is AMAZING! Thank you for posting. Hope you get this to snowball to the top!
I up-voted you too... BTW, should steemit let us steemers advertise using steem? Be sure to tell everyone you know to come vote here at: https://steemit.com/steemit/@kingtylervvs/if-steemit-ever-does-decide-to-advertise-there-is-only-1-way-it-could-work-in-my-opinion-debate

This is a democratic community decision.

Thanks for the upvote @kingtylervvs I enjoy letting others know about my passion. I truly feel good trying to help Steemit become the community and self sustaining media outlet it is capable of becoming..

Getting high is my fitness

@dybbz Thanks for the look into your life. Herb is my only vice. There are many good posts about growing too.

NIce climb!

Thanks @groovy I thoroughly enjoy the challenges. I saw your post about hiking at the creek. Looked like a great day!

Thanks for the support Steemsters! I would love to hear from you too.

@dho would you please explain why you downvoted this blog? As a fairly new user, I would like to discuss or remedy any faux pas I may have done unknowingly.
