I have to use a housing, since you can't install the camera directly on the board. If you mean protection it from (aggressive) salt water: cleaning the camera and the housing with sweet/soft water after EVERY surf session is evident! :)

Yes, I ment agressive conditions of salt water. I heard that it is not recommended to use without the housing , but it seems to me under water picture quality a little bit better without additional protection
I told about waterprof housing something like this
You can't use the camera surfing the Atlantic Ocean without getting it in touch with salt water :-D It's all about the right treatment.
The housing has no influence on the quality of the pictures at all.
