Cell phones and 2 factor authentication - no thanks, will visit a competitor

in #five-g4 years ago

Maybe it's just me...

But when I find what looks like a decent tool that I could make good use of (especially in the crypto space) only to find out that a phone number is a requirement to register (usually under the claim of 2 factor authentication) I get a bit tweaked.

Yeah, I'm old and weird and I don't like cell phones for numerous reasons:

  • They are used to track you and invade your privacy
  • I have no use for being called when I'm busy doing something. Want to reach me? call my land line and leave a message... or send me an email. I'll get back to you when I'm not busy.
  • I value my health and don't need to pack a personal radiation emitter around with me all day.
  • It is hard to hold a meaningful conversation with someone that keeps checking their phone because it vibrates or buzzes at them every few seconds... of course, I just stop trying to talk to such people and walk away.
  • I don't need to pay a monthly fee for the above privileges...

Unfortunately, more and more services want a cell phone number... and I guess a lot of people must be fine with that.

I just don't bother completing the registration and go see if I can find a competitor that isn't quite so stupid or invasive.

I actually had to close a bank account at one point because when I went to give them my updated address they required that I give them a cell number in able to change my address with them. Dumb.

If you are interested in a potential relationship between cell phones and dis-ease you might want to check out the following video:

And if you are someone who is developing a platform of any kind you might want to consider the idea that many people still do not have cell phones... and more than a few people that once had them are getting rid of them for numerous reasons.

There is no reason for 5G. No one gives a rat's arse about it outside of big government and big tech. In fact... 2G was plenty fine and much less dangerous than the newer garbage that just gets more and more insane.
