I must disagree with you there. The flagging system has a purpose and a place for when it should be used. Recently someone was caught for plagiarism and because of the flag system the group of people were able to only flag the posts that had been plagiarized. After this moment he has since apologized and is trying to make right for his wrongs.
That is the correct use of the flag, it is not there to flag stuff you don't like.
I do agree that flags can drive off users and that their needs to be a better consensus on how to use the flag ability! Yeah, If people with high steempower that have the ability to flag something to oblivion I do believe that they should have the decency to leave a comment on why they are doing that.

Well the thing is the topic needs to be approached in a diplomatic type of way. If it is approached from a perspective of Us vs then that will and has been the war that you are describing/experiencing.
Divide and conquer, its not a good thing. My main point is this site cant be "no censorship" if it is censoring stuff one group dislikes. People that disagree with it should be talking about it not trying to censor the people. that is not going to do any good, it is only trying to shut down the conversation imo.
It not a good look when it seems like a lot of users are fighting each other, but at the same time If we are to be able to work together despite our difference and come up with a solution that works for all of us that would be incredible! That would give steemit the best image of all!
Again I totally agree, the people that are flagging need to leave comments or make posts about it. they should form an argument and put it in the free market place of ideas. The best cure for bad ideas is sunlight and by censoring stuff, it is only pushing it back into the dark.
Hopefuly people can stop with the flagging and actually try to have some open discourse. It is the only way things will move forward imo.

Yeah, an explanation is needed! Otherwise it creates confusion; Like smacking a kid and not telling him why (I Believe it is wrong to hit kids, just the analogy I thought of). Yeah censorship creates control!
I think it will eventually come to an end when and if devs implement a "how to use the flag" introduction!
