After years of serving blocks for the STEEM and HIVE chain and once reaching witness rank #7 on STEEM I am saddened to announce my witness server Wit-007 has finally passed on to the land of e-waste. The server ran from March 3rd 2021 till yesterday almost 24/7 and served not only STEEM and HIVE blocks but also my own personal website and a number of projects both complete and upcoming.
If the computer gods will it and the data on the SSD/NVME's is intact I should have it's soul transferred to a new box and have things up and running here in the next week with a new more powerful unit. Looking at getting an EPYC box going here shortly.. Not a huge 64 core system 2x or anything but a start on another box.
Looking back on the time I spent on that server and all the things that it enabled me to achieve I'm grateful it lasted that long. I was fortunate to have @someguy123 toss the server at me as an "alpha test" and allowed me to use it for free until I got the funding to purchase it outright. It saw a storage upgrade earlier this year with a nice 2TB NVME installed to supplement the dual 250GB SSDs in RAID that it came with.
While it only ran 2x Xeons that were a blazing 2Ghz on a good day and 64GB of 1333mhz ECC RAM it allowed me not only to serve sites and blocks, but also learn the art of sysadmin on a linux system. I bricked it a number of times fumbling while learning and the guys at privex.io always helped me out. Huge thanks to the privex.io crew: @kale, @someguy123 and @rishi556 for always helping me out even when it was my own stupidity wrecking my system.
While the thousands of HIVE (and formerly STEEM) blocks it crafted for the chain forever hold true in the blockchain of which I cannot count, I will always remember the Wit-007 server as it was my first offshore and legit real dedicated server. Learned a ton of sysadmin shit, broke the thing more times I can count and ultimately evolved as a person and developer from the years of leveraging that system to take what was in my mind and turn it into something tangible the world could see and benefit from.
( above is some picks of the new potential server.. running an EPYC 7203 )
I will be back online with a new server here within the week, need to get the storage moved over and the new server set up. I will be disabling my witness in the mean time as to not miss blocks and slow the chain. Hoping the future witness machine runs faster with newer gen hardware and the upgrade space it offers is filled with powerful components as I build up a new more formidable system in honour of the one that has died.
Onwards and upwards, hopefully.. I have lots coming before year end.
If you'd like to contribute to the new witness server fund feel free to send HIVE/HBD. Thank you. <3

F!
It is these setbacks that can let us grow stronger.
"We have the technology, we can make him better, stronger…"
I hope you have the money to do this upgrade, and it isn't borrowing from your food budget.
See you back online soon.
lol. Pretty broke but going to broker a deal with privex for some sort of rent to own dealy.
They always been good to me.
OHHHH a fancy server. Remember that terabyte of ram Dell I was talking to you about? I was trying to install drives onto it yesterday and learned that what I thought were caddies for the drives were just blanks....
