I went out on a trip today with my Gran in Tintagel Cornwall. She wanted to take me to the Castle where King Arthur lived, high on the cliffs with his Knights of the Round Table. Folklore abounds in Tintagel town so I wasn't at all surprised to find a Spriggan guarding the local gift shop!
A spriggan is a Legendary Spirit known from Cornish Fairy lore and are particularly associated with their excellent Treasure Hunting skills! They're as mean as they are ugly and represent the darker side of the fairy kingdom. Spriggans come to us from Cornish folklore which describes them as very dark and malevolent creatures. They're part of the fairy world distant cousins of the playful Cornish Piskies, but who act more like bodyguards of the fairy realm. They live in Cornwall in Castle ruins, around certain standing stones and in windswept crags. But they have also reportedly be seen straying from there usual habitat and can sniff out Silver and Gold from hundreds of miles!
