Fearsome Critters: Agropelter

in #folklore6 years ago

Another fictional creation of the lumberjacks of early American history, the agropelter is more comical than fearsome, but still considered a fearsome critter. As the name suggests, the Agropelter is known for pelting woodsmen with sticks. As legend has it the agropelter is incredibly quick, some say he is too quick to be seen.

Others who claim to have seen the agropelter say that the creature has a face like an ape atop a thin, wiry body. The agropelter uses its slender but muscular arms to throw sticks and branches at unsuspecting people, and has been blamed for the disappearances of people in the northern regions of the U.S. As it would happen, loggers of coniferous forests would occasionally die from falling branches, and the others in their company would blame the agropelter, stating that this creature intentionally dropped branches on the logger.

Adding to the mysterious nature of this creature, it is alleged that agropelter pups are only born on the 29th of February on leap years. It is said that the agropelter diet consists of woodpeckers, owls, and rotten wood.
