It may be stating the obvious, but a social site is made of people (like Soylent Green). Steemit is still pretty small with under a million accounts and many of those are inactive. We need millions more to attract the masses and that's down to us. It has been hard to get people to sign up. Steemit can look like a possible scam as many will be suspicious of any site that promises to pay you. It's also fairly complex and you need to learn about various concepts such as blockchain and managing keys.
There's also still the issue of getting an account verified. That all seems to take a while. I can see they need to minimise the fake accounts, but we need to get good people on board quicker. We were told they are working on this at Steemfest.
These are some of the people I've either brought here or at least persuaded them to stick with it.
- @the-bitcoin-dood brought me here and I'm grateful to him for that. Follow him for cryptocurrency news.
- @stav is a fellow guitar fan and keen photographer.
- @dickturpin posts some funny stuff about life in the IT trade and his dog.
- @uwelang had been very successful here with all sorts of posts.
- @rebeccabe is into photography and meditation. A long time friend from the Tsu days.
- @jumowa is another German who I knew on Tsu.
- @andyc is not posting much, but he keeps coming back.
- @voxxov is a songwriter, musician and philosopher. I'm hoping he will be more active soon.
Another musician friend has just signed up and I'll be helping him get started when he can log in. I've been collaborating with him on some songs and I want him to benefit from them.
As Steemit gets better known we will see a flood of new users, but it's advantageous to get in early and start building your followers.
This is just the start of something amazing.
Steem on!
I'll buy guitar picks for Steem Dollars

I actually brought a famous American MMA fighter called Charles Bennett to Steemit though i think he may have lost his password or something as he has not posted yet his account is @felony352 i have a few friends who opened accounts but they gave up pretty quickly unfortunately...
That's a shame. I hope some of them will come back eventually
It is a shame because these people lead interesting lives and i am sure they would do well if they just gave it the time.
Most people I talk to are very negative toward anything crypto related and this is the problem I face. I have managed to get one friend to sign up but he has done nothing since getting his account. I need to kick him up the arse.
People just don't like change, they like their Facebook too much. All their friends are on there, so why should they come here?
The enticement of payment for their posts should work, but when you tell them its a maybe few pennies and nothing to start with, they can't be bothered.
I ask them how much they get on Facebook for their comments, and I get shoulder shrugs. It will take a lot convincing to get the masses here, and then it will be slow as most things seem to be.
I get much the same. Steemit needs to reach a critical mass to take off.
Well, not everybody is in here for the pennies, some people are just looking for quality content and original ideas, in the way, yes, a few pennies won't be bad, but cryptos and money are not the focus.
Thanks for your patience with me @steevc - resteemed
This platform can have its ups and downs, but I still believe it can be much bigger. I'm happy you stuck with it and have done so well
All true and fingers crossed - I hope you are right and thanks again for all the support.
I think a lot of people who come onto steemit don't realise how early they are getting into the steem ecosystem.
When you see virgin land, do not complain about the lack of facilities. Build them and you will be a pioneer and a leader.
I've got a few friends waiting for authorisation. But so far I have @livvu who is posting some great art work and @afazil who hasn't posted yet, but I am helping him with drafting his posts at the moment, mostly about cooking!
Exciting times

'I think a lot of people who come onto steemit don't realise how early they are getting into the steem ecosystem.'
I truly hope you are right about this. I love this platform but feel I have got in too late.
I joined in Jan 2018. I was the first person I know to be on here. So don't worry, it's very early days still.
I brought:
@ehlim - My friend way over in Malaysia. Wish he was more active. @intspekt - friend from the Americas, doing well. @metalx1000 - I made his account, really wish he was more active. He makes so much content.
Well i agree wit hyou.
Steemit needs to attract millions.
I first attract into this platform by my friend.
I brought quiet some numbers of persons. Like you stated, the long time of getting. Some of my friends are yet to be approved and they did register two weeks ago.
Great content @steevc
Thank you for the information in this post
