Ever since we moved to the tropics I became a coconut addict. I even can't remember a day of not having one... that's how crazy in love I am with this tropical fruit. If you jumped on the coconut water health craze too and buying it in a carton in the grocery store... then I must shatter your dreams right there.... you are not drinking coconut water what so ever. It might be in there... but definitely in disguise.
I had coconut water from a carton or bottle in Belgium too and I really hated it! It tastes like.. well not like the real stuff that for sure.
Special thanks to my lovely neighbor for getting these out of our tree! Of course, we shared the bounty with him!
Time for a smoothie with coconut water, straight from the garden!
Watercress Mango Grape Smoothie
Ingredients
2 cups watercress
1 cup mango chunks
1 cup grapes (red, green, or a mix)
2 oranges, peeled
1/2 avocado
2 cup fresh coconut water
Directions
- Add watercress and coconut water to a blender and blend until smooth. Add remaining ingredients and blend again. Add more coconut water or filtered water if needed
- Top with superfoods such as goji berries, oats, hemp hearts or cacao nibs if you like.
FYI: if you don't like a green, peppery taste use less watercress or use spinach instead.
Happy blending!

I grew up with fresh coconut water around me, oh how I miss it! Thank you for such a lovely article :)
Thank you for your lovely comment! I bet you had a lot fresh coconut when you were a kid. The kids here love them too!
Lucky kids! :)
:)
Love coconut... Hate coconut water
Really, even the fresh coconut water straight from coconut? I hated store-bought coconut water too... but it is just not the same. Thanks for dropping by @jonny-clearwater.
I've never had straight from the fruit only store bought
A world of difference. Believe me! I never liked coconut water from a carton when I lived in Belgium and now I drink at least one fresh coconut every day!
If I had one in the backyard I'd try it... I'll trust your word
I've heard there are more than 300 coconut species. I really love the ones people call champagne coconuts, they are fizzy and sweet. As they mature they loose their fizziness. When they start to sprout a foam ball fills the area where to water is. The sprout foam is pretty tasty too!
That's some interesting info!
One per day? Omg you lucky one. I love fresh cocuut water, it tastes amazing (and probably is pretty healthy, too).
Yep. if the trees in the garden are depleted the little drink shop next to our sells cold fresh coconut for $0.75! Feeling very lucky indeed! And they are super health. My hubby and I are planning to do a coconut water fast for a few days when he is back from Europe. Enjoy the rest of your day ;)
they're growing in pots here these days
but I wonder if like the pineapples and the avocado .. I wonder if they'd ever fruit
They have to become pretty tall to bear fruit, so I think it will be very unlikely! Just like avocado tree. But it is fun to see them grow! Harvesting pineapples works in the Netherlands if you keep them in pots indoors during winter. they need at least 18 degrees.
Yummy! I love cocunut!
We are all coconut lovers 💗
This looks delicious!
Oh how I miss fresh coconuts! This looks amazing!
We can't have it all :( I really miss berries here! But on a mission to grow my own. Thanks for dropping by!
SOOO Love coconuts!! This smoothie looks delightful i think i just found my breakfast for today! Thank you!
Hehe, Enjoy! And I'm totally on your side... coconuts are soooo good!
that looks really nice. Will try it out since there so much coconuts nearby my mom's 'kampung' (village) which part of the tropics are you in ? 🏖️🏖️
@bitrocker2020
Up, re & fo
Aren't we blessed by all the fresh earth foods that freely grow in our backyards @bitrocker2020? I'm in Cambodia, you? Kampung village sounds very Cambodian to me! We might be neighbors lol! Thanks for stopping by!
Cambodia !!! Awesome ... i'm just further down in Malaysia. I used to travel to Phnom Pehn a lot. Just love the food & culture there.
What can I say, we arrived nearly 2.5 years ago and are still here! Love SE-Asia. Never made it to Malaysia, but that may happen within the next year. We might come for an F1 or MotoGP race and while we are there see the rest of teh country too. If you ever come back this way let us know!
If you want to come for the F1 .. better make it this year 2017 FORMULA 1 PETRONAS MALAYSIA GRAND PRIX ( 29 SEPT - 1 OCT 2017 ). Its going to be the final F1 race held in Malaysia as F1 is not renewing its license
Ohh thanks! Not sure if my hubby knows! This year it is, then! We should have some time end september to take some time off. Think it's less than a 2 hour flight Siem Reap - KL.
Yeapp ... Book Ur hotels early as since it's the last ... Tix will be so so hot
