It doesn't happen very often that we are treated with fresh strawberries in the tropics, but we found a guy who is doing a great job growing them on his organic aquaponic farm. Though they weren't cheap, this just made my morning so much better. Berries.... the small wonders and joys of life.
Happy mornings make happy days... and it's market day too! Can't wait to stock up on some fresh fruits and vegs. Let's hope we find some soursop or custard apple because these strawberries are good but way to expensive to buy them every day :(
Can't wait till we move in a few month, so I can finally start my berry growing project in the tropics. Time for some research, 'cause I failed miserably last time I tried. Maybe I should look into aquaponics too... all tips are welcome ;) I'm starting from seeds... which might be the difficulty too... but with no berry plants available in garden centers, seeds are my only option.
Ingredients
2 cups kale
1.5 cup strawberries
2 kiwifruits
1 banana
2 tsp moringa powder
1/2 cup fresh mint (or to taste)
2 tbsp extra virgin coconut oil
2 cups water (or coconut water)
Directions
- Blend kale and water until smooth. Add the remaining ingredients and blend again. If the smoothie is too thick for you, add more liquid base. If you have a high-speed blender you can blend everything at once.
- Optional: top with toppings/superfoods of your choice (chia seeds, desiccated coconut, hemp hearts etc.)
Happy blending!

This looks so delicious! Oh yes, I remember one time when we went to Lucky Supermarket a pack of 5 strawberries was 10$ :-O
Yep! And the are not as delicious as these. We know a friend here who is experimenting with growing berries and got my hands on some of these.... kiwis were expensive too... but I was craving a non-mango, non-pineapple smoothie. ...was worth the money ;)
This one looks extra good today :D
Great ingredients. I love Chia so much, I buy it in 5 lb containers and even make flour with it. Moringa is really awesome too, we are actually growing some in our yard that are already shrubs. It is a really hearty tree. Trying Kale for the first time, just dropped seeds and anxiously waiting. I have tons of mint all over the garden, it grows like a weed here in Florida lol. What country or State are you in that you are having a hard time with berries?
Cambodia, SE-Asia. Berries don't grow her and since it is a developing country there are almost no supermarkets like we know them in the west that sell everything. But not complaining, we have so many other things, like moringa, soursop, mangoes, durian etc.
The Fruits sound a lot like Florida. I used to watch a blog on youtube of a powerlifter from U.S that moved there and he lived very well from just the little bit he was making from his little youtube channel. I wish I could get up and go and travel. Pretty much grounded to Florida for a while due to our retail business being our cash cow.
I see! Yes Cambodia is very cheap to live if you stick to the local produce and shop at local markets. Some families here go with less than $150 a month and they survive...
That is amazing, I really wanted to move to Costa Rica at one point. I even bought 4 acres near the Nicaraguan border on a beach, and bought a small Condo in Jaco back in 2006. Then the Economy Collapsed a little while later and I lost my business, my house, and those properties along with it all and had to build it all again. Fun times for a 29 year old.
Ohh! That's a shame. But we all have our ups and downs. Though we didn't lose as much, we lost a lot in the 2014-2015 bitcoin bubble. Still have plans to go to Costa Rica some day? I really wanna go there after our Asia adventure in a few years. Our cat is 14 now and too old to travel so far so staying in Asia... but hey we love it here.
Yeah I will probably get a property there eventually once we figure out an exit strategy for our Brick and Mortar Store. I also really love the Bahamas and have my eye closely on my homeland Cuba. Any where on Saltwater with low crime I am happy. I just have to be as close to water as possible lol. That is where I am happiest, any where I can see that blue water, all of my stress just melts away.
OMG that looks tasty!
Thanks @rawpride! It sure was ;)
I just bought some kiwi. Going to make me some smoothies now:)
I hope you enjoyed it too ;) Thanks for your comment @xredsoulless!
Mm looks tasty! Have you ever used Acai in anything?
When we lived in Europe Yes! Can't find it in Cambodia.... reminds me to put it in the to-buy list when we travel to Europe later this summer!

Hey this looks great! Thanks for sharing. Do you ever try hemp heart seeds in them? Something you may want to try! I discuss them a bit in my post here on oatmeal balls https://steemit.com/recipes/@steemtobefree/the-best-energy-oatmeal-balls-for-under-120-calories-original-recipe
Gave you a follow and upvote! Would appreciate the same.
Cheers!
Thanks, @steemtobefree! I love hemp hearts and often use them in salads, smoothies, smoothie bowl, or other breakfast bowls... they are so yum! Too bad I have to use them with care since you can't find them in Cambodia. I always stock up when traveling!

One day we will make it there. But after our Europe trip to meet up with family and friends later this year I really want to go to Nepal! Not sure why Nepal is calling but I have the feeling I really need to go there for some reason hehe. But we are going to wait till it is spring or summer there. Too cold now hehe. Have a great weekend ;)
Oh Nepal is simply a great destination, it seems such a peaceful country! Their cultures and traditions surely is tempting to experience!
You'll have a great time with your trips!
Happy Sunday dear!
Have you ever been? I love it how they preserve their nature and their culture. A friend of mine who lives in Cambodia is from Nepal and many other friends visited and they all are so positive about the country. Just must go. Have a great week ;)
Well i have never visited but it is infact on top of my bucket list! I had a sushi chef in my team from Nepal and he always showed me pics of his village, it was just amazing!
