This is the recipe my mom passed on to me, and it's the only one I use now. It's way easy to make and it tastes so good. Plus, it allows for substitutions/additions to fit your own taste.
Ingredients
- 2 - 15oz cans of plain tomato sauce
- 9 lasagna noodles
- 1lb lean ground beef or ground turkey
- 16 to 32oz mozzarella cheese - thinly sliced**
Salt, pepper, crushed red pepper, basil, oregano, paprika, and onion powder (I rarely measure these out, I just add to taste for each one)
Directions
Preheat oven to 350 degrees
Spray bottom of 13x9 baking dish with cooking spray
Brown ground beef or turkey in large skillet
Cook lasagna noodles according to package directions
Once meat is cooked, add both cans of tomato sauce to skillet and stir to combine
Add spices to taste
Once meat sauce is warmed throughout, add one fourth of the sauce to the bottom of the greased baking dish
Cover sauce with three lasagna noodles
Add one fourth of the sauce on top of the first layer of noodles
Then cover sauce with slices of mozzarella cheese
Add a second layer of three noodles, cover with sauce, and cover with cheese
Repeat for the third layer, making sure all edges of the noodles are covered with sauce
Bake, uncovered, for 20 minutes
Once done, let the dish sit for 5 minutes to set up (this makes it easier to serve from the pan)
**You can add more or less cheese to suit your taste. I've even used some Ricotta for one layer and it was yummy!
